Excuse for what? Having better facilities than LT?

No. The excuse for not being able to entice the kind of athletes Tech does.

That's hard to tell. Tech finished #99 per Sagarin last year and UNT finished #157, but I know your rating was hurt by the competition you played. We had one player drafted in the NBA and I don't know if UNT did.

ETA: I just looked and UNT did not have any players drafted. I would have to give advantage to Tech. I'm open minded if you want to plead your case though.

I don't intend or need to plead anything. Drafted players mean zilch. I'll take UNT RIGHT NOW over tech in men's basketball any day of the week.

(08-27-2010 11:21 AM)theATLDawg Wrote:  first of all I didnt get any of that from that article. It sounds like just another pro ULM writer trying to as he says "speculate" "read between the lines". Trust I am sure that Tech will go Belt before going Independent but right now we are in a big wait and see and it would be stupid with the current landscape to move over to the Belt now when you might be moving again. When the dust settles if Tech is not in CUSA they will go belt. Can almost guarantee it, unless the WAC invites a whole lot of Texas teams and waves a carrot to get us to stay but I doubt it. All this die before Belt stuff is coming from fans not the administration. They would be stupid to actually say we will never be in the belt.

I haven't agreed with you much, but I agree with this one. I didn't get hostility from Van De Velde either and in fact I think it could be that the writer completely misread what exactly was between those lines.

Van De Velde Wrote:"I really don't want to comment on speculating and a hypothetical like that," he said. "Our intention is to improve our program, improve our university and try to align ourselves with a conference that is similar in strength as the Western Athletic Conference. And it may be the Western Athletic Conference. We'll see. The membership committee has to work through that, and we'll do that in the coming months and the coming year. But that is always our goal."

I think you have to understand his position and his audience here. When asked about the Sunbelt he basically said, "no comment, we just want to do the best we can." He knew that his fan base would be reading this article. He knows that his fanbase will tear him a new one if they end up in the Sunbelt. So when he essentially does not answer the question, I interpret that as 'yes the Sunbelt is a possiblility if CUSA doesn't pan out but why stir that beehive right now'.

They aren't making near the basketball money they made before and many of the units earned since were earned under an NCAA cloud. ESPN slashed their money for 2005 and their exposures and rumor-mill indicates they will be very lucky if they just hold on to the TV dollars they have now, but if they lose a team or two, they will lose dollars in the next contract.

Their premier bowl is the Liberty and their newest contract provides for a method for the Liberty to send the champ to Birmingham and pit Big East vs SEC in the Liberty.

But what C-USA has is higher profile universities than the sunbelt, pretty much across the board (there are 1 or 2 exceptions). That's why teams want to go to C-USA. That's really why La Tech wants to go to C-USA.

And that's ultimately what keeps C-USA's TV contract in pretty good stead and basically the same as the MWC's despite the MWC's on the field superiority and your (inaccurate) pronouncements for the last several years that the TV deal would turn to squat.

The sunbelt certainly could overcome that by fielding great football teams...but they haven't yet. That's what Boise State did. Low profile schools that plays great football.

you call those trees? those are overgrown shrubs. the trees are prevalent more out of Denton but not a whole lot on campus and almost none existent in your village. And all of these facilities at Tech were just built last year. They are still in the planning stages as far as stands etc. The soccer field is getting the new stands put in right now. The track and field and tennis have none of that put in yet. And your softball field sits on some country road in what looks like a barren corn field. The one pic you showed of the building with the clock is the single only real pretty building on campus.http://www.latechsports.com/facilities/latc-ltsf.html as you can tell from the article written about it, the field is new and all the pressboxes are now permanently being put in. No there are no locker rooms as I am sure it is not one of our highest priorities, but you may notice those nice BIG green things that surround all of our facilities. Now that is called trees and it is what makes everything we have so much more appealing than everything on your campus. Strip malls and dead grass is all you have all over there.

and everything in those pics proves my point about your campus, the buildings all look like army barracks. they are dated and just plain ugly with the exception of your clock tower. Every part of our campus and our facilities are surrounded by rolling pines and blooming tulips. I would be surprised if anything but wildflowers can even grow in N. Texas.

The player Tech had drafted was an LSU player that transferred to follow the assistant coach that left LSU to go to Tech. This was not a guy that was originally committed and signed to Tech. You lucked up on this one.

Sorry, you are 100% WRONG. This guy is the Tech beat writer, and his writings are anything but pro ULM or SBC.
