Obvious, but important. Sadly now an empty shell, much like many of the previous locations:

that is a really interesting angle. Where were you standing when that picture was taken? Did you cross the bridge, or walk around ?

That view would be from the Wolf River side of Mud Island

25 N. Main; Gerbers Department Store installed Memphis’ first escalators and they opened to great fanfare and free publicity in the two newspapers for the store. The first escalators had been planned by Goldsmith’s but Gerbers quietly installed theirs about 6 months ahead of Goldsmiths.

Gerber's was particularly noted for its TEA ROOM - a popular meeting place downtown.

This is an awesome thread. Love these old pics, and also the funnier stuff like having Platinum and Ozzy's mug shot and stuff like that in here.

Blues Stadium, August 1975. Memphis Blues (AAA Expos) vs Charleston Charlies (AAA Pirates). I know Blues Stadium really wasn't a landmark but I sure had some good memories there seeing games and growing up in the late 60's and 70's. Notice the orange clip on 'rent-a-seats' in the Liberty Bowl. They were from the previous night's Memphis Grizzlies WFL game.

Cool pictures!

What was the name of that old building at the fairgrounds that burnt down several years ago?

I enjoyed playing in that park when it was called Fairgrounds #3. Saw many a great Blues/Chicks game there.
