Israel Names Russians Helping Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given Russia’s leaders a list of Russian scientists who are involving in developing a nuclear warhead for Iran, according to the Sunday Times of London.

Netanyahu delivered the list himself during a recent secret trip to Moscow. The trip was recently revealed in Israel and the government has conceded Netanyahu was holding talks with Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, and President Dmitry Medvedev .

“We have heard that Netanyahu came with a list and concrete evidence showing that Russians are helping the Iranians to develop a bomb,” a source close to the Russian defense minister told the Times.

“That is why it was kept secret. The point is not to embarrass Moscow, rather to spur it into action.”

Israeli sources said it was a short, tense meeting at which Netanyahu named the Russian experts said to be assisting Iran in its nuclear program .

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called a nuclear Iran “very likely,” adding that “you better get used to a nuclear Middle East” with Saudi Arabia and other Muslim Mideast countries following suit with their own nuclear bombs, according to Newsweek editor Jon Meacham.

Meacham was addressing the Cooper Union in New York City on Wednesday evening on the subject of the demise of conservatism when he told his audience of a Tuesday phone call with the prominent Republican.

“Will there be a nuclear Iran?” is the question he asked the onetime Vietnam POW.

McCain has been hawk when it comes to dealing with Iran's nuclear weapons programs. During his presidential campaign, McCain raised a ruckus at an April, 2007 campaign appearance in South Carolina when he sang “bomb Iran” to the tune of the Beach Boys hit, “Barbara Ann.”

The senator’s pessimism about preventing an atomic-armed Iran suggests he has little confidence in the Obama Administration as it tries to forge an international coalition to impose stronger economic sanctions against Tehran.

Russia and China have been disinclined to break their strong economic and military ties to Iran, downplaying the threat the extremist Islamic regime would pose as a nuclear power.

Press reports indicate that the U.S. has ruled out a military option against Iran and that Israel does not have the military capacity to successfully destroy Iran's nuclear facilities.

Meacham, whose biography of Andrew Jackson won the Pulitzer Prize this year, also told his audience about a conversation he had last week with “a very senior White House official” who asserted that “race is clearly part of the opposition” to President Obama as his popularity drops in the polls.

Moral equivalency? I think not. Israel has not once said it intends to push the Muslims into the Med.

If Iran can make a bomb, and in looking at the success that Pakistan and North Korea have had in foreign negotiations because of the bomb, watch for a lot of other countries to develop, build and test nuclear weapons.

My short list would be

Brazil
Saudi Arabia
Egypt

and maybe Venezuela.

Global prestige is soon going to measured by the amount of a country's fissionable armaments.

I Know, this is a very grave situation for the world. The proliferation of nuclear weapons does not make the world safer, it almost grantees the future generations a nuclear event will occur. I just don't know why Clinton, Bush, Obama didn't take greater control when there was a chance to actually stop this UGLY situation from developing. The Persian Arabs with a nuke is not exactly what the rest of the Arab world wants either.

The problem is that so far North Korea can't build a Bomb that works according to the AQ Khan design. Maybe there is a "hickey" in the design?

You can build a "Little Boy" uranium bomb--that is a fairly conservative "no frills" design. The problem is that gives you a 8-10,000 pound bomb with a 20 kt yield that you can't put on a missile or hang on a jet. Shove it out the back of a C-130- maybe. It would be perfect to smuggle into a port in a shipping container however.

You can get only so much weapons grade fissile material. The only way to get a sizable quantity is to build centrifuge banks. And you can be sure anything used in constructing a centrifuge is being watched very closely.

So which country helped Israel develop theirs? I think we ALL know.

As far as anyone is willing to admit. Israel is only suspected of having nuclear weapons. If they do have them, they built it by themselves. How? No one Knows.

If I remember correctly, last year someone within the US government or Israeli government (I forget which at this point) stated that Israel had nuclear weapons. It is ridiculous to state that the US didn't essentially give them the technology to build the bombs (if the US didn't just give them everything totally completed to begin with)...

Dude, and this is for Owl as well, the two dominant parts of Islam are Sunni and Shi'ite. They're both intertwined now. Shi'ites are the majority of Iran (Persians), but also the majority in Iraq (Arabs). You guys need to understand Islam to realize that culture/race/ethnicity, etc., doesn't mean dick to them. It's about the religion. They'd fight with the damn Panamanians if they claimed to be some flavor of Islam.

Rebel these $hits have been fighting for years. Yeah they can join in their hate toward us because of Islam, but the Egyptians, Saudis, and other Arab states sure hell do not want Tehran to have a bomb and have GIVEN the green light to Israel. Evidence? In the spring when Israel mopped the floors with hezbollah there was NO complaing from the Arabs and there will be NO complaining FROM the Arabs if Israel pops Tehran.

Iraq went into Kuwait after they had fought with Iran and in that war 2 million were killed. There is no need to remind you they are all Islamic as they killed each other. If we nuked a couple of their cities and stole their oil and starved their ass Russian style there would be less trouble from these ignorant oil $hit$.

Where will the bitching come from? American hard core left, State Dept, Obama and maybe Rome. Its a more dangerous world today because no one can trust Obama. He has no ones back. He can not even support a democracy in nearby Honduras.

The US did not give Israel the technology to develop nuclear power. You have your history wrong if you believe that. The US Government did not systematically give the technology to develop nuclear weapons. There is some dispute as to whether any material or plans did come from the US - many of those claims are speculative. But, it is irresponsible and baseless to suggest that the US gave Israel assembled nuclear weapons or that Israel obtained assembled weapons in any form from any country - that just has not basis in reality.

On paper yes, but Muslims are more racist than you give them credit for. Persians do not view Arabs as "peers", and much of that viewpoint transcends the relatively small duration of the Islamic period of Persian history.

They were helped by the US, whether you want to admit to it or not. Isreal did not (and really still does not) have the resources to get the nuclear material, let alone be able to design and test their designs.
