MAC di not do well
Kentucky over Ohio 42-0, Purdue over Toledo 52-31, WMU down 21 just into the 2nd quarter with Mich. Not a good start for the MAC. No upsets yet; we'll have the last chance tonight.
Purdue now worries me, unless Toledo is that bad.

Toledo isn't very good
We'll find out what we have at the CB position over the next couple of weeks. That'll be key when we go to W. Lafayette.
Very disappointed with WMU's showing, they have always played the big boys well....laying an egg in this one. I still hold out hope that CMU will do well tonight in Tuscon and us in Madison.

I am guessing you meant Miami(OH) losing to Kentucky. Ohio plays UConn later. As for Purdue, they may be slightly better than people think but I think Toledo is worse than people think. I think our game will probably be a close one.

Arizona is supposed to have one of their best defenses in the last 5 years according to various sources here in Tucson. Offense could be suspect especially since their future first round pick--Rob Gronkowski--probably won't play due to back problems.

In November, yes. In September, no. We've been getting killed regularly in our opening weeks (Nebraska, Mizzou, West Virginia, etc.).

Maybe Toledo hasn't progressed since last season. Toledo's defense was bad last season too.
Remember, we only gave up 7 points to pretty much this same Toledo team last season. Purdue's so-called good defense gave up 31 points.

MAC EAST - Buffalo versus BG.
The only other highlight: Athens resident + journalist Molly Yanity gave several AP Top 25 votes to the MAC last year. She truly rocks. Problem: she lost her vote when the Seattle PI went out of business.
MAC WEST - Ideally, WMU should have the best defense over the course of the year.
Eastern will improve defensively. Will regress offensively while the defense is repaired.
As for NIU, you guys know them best. I think they'll finish top 3 in the west.
After that, no MAC West defense whatsoever.
Of course, CMU will annoy us all with their offense.
Toledo will be like last year's EMU squad.
Ball State will fall very far.

Toledo had some pretty good numbers on offense against Purdue, looks like both defenses have questions

Central Michigan is the elite team in all the MAC. And I wouldn't go reading too much into Western Michigan's loss. I still say they are the 2nd best team in all the MAC.
NIU will be fighting for 3rd place in the MAC West. Nothing wrong with that at this stage.

Yeah, nothing I saw last night suggested we're likely to challenge CMU this year. However, we do get WMU at home, and I'm hopeful that Kill and co. see that as the make or break game of the season. I like our chances for the upset there...

Lefevour, brutal last night vs Arizona.
Assuming no more injuries on the offensive/defensive lines, NIU can still possibly compete for a MAC title. CMU and WMU have some issues as we saw yesterday.

RE: MAC di not do well
This from "Who's not hot" from CFN:
9. The MAC – Didn’t this league used to be home to the occasional giant killer? Not only did the Mid-American Conference go 3-10 on opening weekend, but it lost games to Villanova, North Texas, and Army. Plus, Central Michigan and Western Michigan, which were supposed to put scares in Arizona and Michigan, respectively, did a horrid job of carrying the MAC banner.
3. The Big Ten – Grab the flag for piling on if you must, but the Big Ten did little to prop up its tattered image in Week 1. Let’s see. Ohio State darn near got stunned by Navy. Minnesota needed overtime to beat Syracuse. Illinois got embarrassed by Missouri. Purdue gave up a million yards to Toledo. Indiana had to break a sweat versus Eastern Kentucky. And Iowa had to block two last-second kicks to fend off Northern Iowa. While only one league member lost, peeling the Big Ten onion reveals a familiar odor.
The MAC looked bad. I think NIU will be the big surprise in the west, IF we get our pass defense situated. Our offense looked good, once Harnish was allowed to be Harnish. I can CMU, WMU, or NIU taking it, with CMU being the favorite, although we are competitive.

You CANNOT judge the conference game potential of MAC teams by looking at how they did against BCS teams. That's retarded (which I guess plays right into the hands of some of the retards on this board).
CMU and WMU are DEFINITELY the two best teams in the entire MAC. That point will start to be borne out once the season conference schedule starts.
Why precisely is anybody surprised that the MAC did lousy against BCS competition in week one?!?!?

I do not think there is anyway you can say that right now. They might be a shade better than NIU, but by no means can you use terms like definitely the two best teams. The gap is nowhere near that big. A few weeks back I thought the injuries on the lines would be too much to overcome, but I did not realize you would have underclassmen step up the way they have.
CMU and WMU were outscored by a total of 50-13 against one team that would only be in top 40 discussions and then against a Michigan team that is quite frankly a horrible team this year. Michigan will lose by 35 vs Notre Dame. WMU should have at least been competitive in that game against a bad Michigan team.
