Remember when we lost to EMU at home?

Good times...

I was living in North Texas territory when they hired Todd Dodge. He was hailed as the savior of UNT. He was going to make them the best team in Texas. Better than the Aggies. Better than the Longhorns. 03-phew

7,

If we formed a top ten list of games NIU lost in the past decade vs lesser teams which gave you a massive anal cramp leading you to ask yourself: "What the eff did I just witness ?" --- what games make your list?

The EMU game at home a few seasons ago with a Garrett Wolfe ( sic: edited) in the line up would easily make my top ten vomit list of the decade. Was GW out of the lineup that game?

I also recall NIU sleep walking the first half at home vs Ball State then thinking to myself:

Okay, we crapped out a bad apple and will come back strong . Huskies were actually worse the start of the third quarter and the game quickly became a turd.

Add your own eight "Made Me Vomit Games" - excluding MACC vs Akron where NIU do not play badly vs a lesser opponent.

NIU didn't lose to EMU with Wolfe. They played an ugly game where they barely won and Wolfe got injured late in the game, but they never lost to EMU with Wolfe.

In no particular order, Ohio (06), Ball State (05), SIU, EMU, and Temple all in 07 would be in my top 5. Both Akron games in 05 were games that would have both have been on my list as well.

Btw, here's the EMU game you were thinking of:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=252882459

We won 24-8, and Wolfe left with his knee injury. Adrian Davis ran for like 250 yards the next week in the rain against Kent, then came disasterous Ball State game, then the infamous CMU/Toledo/WMU finish that got us in the MAC Championship game. I always forget we managed to win in Mt. Pleasant without Wolfe, after that awful lost to Ball State.

EDIT: The Iowa State game in Ames might be on the list just because that was a game we had no business losing. Horvath completely sh!t his pants in the 2nd half.

Gag me with a cigar:

EMU beat NIU in 2007 MAC home opener , 21-19, coming from behind & down 13-0 then blocking NIU's makeable FG on last play of the game. Wolfe had graduated, my bad. Chalk it up to Cybermentia.

The loss qualifies for my list of Top Ten Vomit Loses to an inferior opponent.

Britt dropped a TD that would have made it like 17-0 and probably salted that game away.

Nendick kicked the worst FG of all time on the last play of the game, and IIRC Onyebuago had a miraculous reception on 4th down.

RE: Rivals countdown 120 to 1
WIU in '02 is definitely the top of my list. I broke my toe after the game kicking what I thought was an empty rolling rock box in disgust.

Both Akron losses were brutal, but the MAC championship game was by far the worse. GW dominated, Hurd was great and revenge was a factor. D crapped the bed in the 2nd half and you could almost envision the Ray Smith meltdown blown coverage play before it even happened. I'll never forget they showed GW on the big screen in Ford Field right after that play and he was laughing and shaking his head with a "what the hell else was I supposed to do to win tonight" look on his face. Major Huskie vomit moment.

Any 1-AA loss has to make the list. Despite our down year and SIU having a great team that year, The SIU loss in '07 was brutal just for the sake that we were rolling them in 3rd quarter and managed to find a way to blow that one. We win that game and '07 was a mediocre season, that 4th quarter set the table for a deplorable season.

I'll look back on this decade of Huskie football thinking what could have been. Other then the 03 season where injuries and the fact that the conference was at it's peak, we never had a juggernaut defense and a juggernaut offense at the same time. 2005 was arguably our best offensive team of the decade with 2 legitimate WR's and GW teamed w/ a solid TE and O line. Our defense was beginning to get strong, but was young and inexperienced. By the end of this decade the D was strong but our O was a ways from it's peak. 2004-06's offense with 2007-08's defense would have made things really interesting in Dekalb.

yet, somehow, someway. Hurons have managed to annoy the hell outta WMU and Chips ....and I still prefer posting Hurons to Eagles...Hellsbells, if CMU can be the Chips - unless their logo is now a poker chip - or Utah the Utes etc etc - I fail to comprehend why EMU admin caved in and adopted Eagles....

Noone had a bigger gag than the Michigan Wolverines to Appalachain State. Every other upset in college football looks miniscule compared to that embarassment.

Their Toledo loss last year was worse but not as high profile. At least Ap St. was a good team.

Your extreme jealously and hatred of the Big 10 knows no bounds. Within a couple years Michigan will have reclaimed it's spot among the top 10 football programs in the country. What will you say then?

I think he'll still say, and 99.99% of the world will agree, that the loss to appy state was the worst in D1 & FBS football history.

right, because he had one season and had absolutely zero skill players which his entire offense is based on. oh and he had a top ten recruiting class...what a bum. maybe not this year but in 2010 they'll likely be a top 25 team.

RE: Rivals countdown 120 to 1
The first "bad" loss I felt like we had was the Bowling Green loss. So many injuries, you just wish we could have played at full strength. Or just if that first long run wasn't called back, and our trick plays had not failed or been called at all, what could have been? That was the first time I was a fan of a special team that lost a game. The Bulls had always won when they were good, and my other teams were never that good to begin with, so a loss didn't really bother me all that much. The Bears and Sox had some decent teams but nothing where I felt like we had something special.

Since then though, it's been one bad loss after another for the Huskies it seems, with few big wins in between.

That Akron loss killed sports for me for quite a while. Was there for it in person, was a hard day to be a Huskie. I didn't turn ESPN on or read about sports for months after that game.

Northwestern broke my spirit too.

A lot of losses under Kill have been pretty brutal too though. Just hard to watch games where I felt like the players didn't lose the game but the coach did. Those are hard losses to swallow as a fan.
