RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread
Couple questions:

Does WR Kyle Prater of Proviso West have enough scholarship offers?

(FYI, he's the #18 player in Rivals recently released Top 100 players for 2010. The only Illinois prospect on the list.)

and

Is 6'8" too tall for an offensive tackle?

...er nevermind about the second question. I stumbled into answering that for myself: Check out this 6'8" behemoth of a Minnesota prospect!

Just a Warrior Fan (Waubonsie) trying to help one of our young Warriors find the right opportunity at next level. I hear he came away from NIU junior day impressed with what he saw and heard.

Are you a family member?

I just say that because whenever posts like this show up one tends to be from a relative who is acting like a "fan". It's ok to support your family - I'm just saying if you are just a "fan" it's creepy you know so much about a high school kid... 04-jawdrop

Then I'm his street agent = ) Can we turn attention away from poster and to the prospect ?

Well here is what I know - I live in Naperville, he isn't considered a big time prospect at this point. He put up some very nice numbers - but again he doesn't have the top end speed that some look for.

He is going to have to prove himself in camps and combines this summer. I know you probably are a relative but I'm just being honest he isn't one of the top end guys at this point.

TheNEWguy,
Take it easy on warriorfan. They did not start posting about this prospect. Esnoopy posted that he attended Junior Day and gave a link. Coach Fleck is recruiting him. How do you know that he is not in your words a top end guy? Coach Fleck was also not a top end guy either and he turned out pretty well. I would bet that Coach Fleck sees a little bit of himself in this recruit. Let the coaches decide what prospects that they want to recruit and be a little more friendly to potential Huskie supporters.

Appreciate the sentiment, but it was constructive critique of current perception .. so no worries. I have Waubonsie ties and have watched this kids develop for 3 years. He is great athlete and has incredible work ethic. His development from sophomore to junior year was incredible. Rgearding his numbers, know this .. he was not the primary target in their offense. He started season as 3rd option and moved up to 2nd option. Most of the balls thrown to him were either 3 yds begin the line (bubble options) or within 5-10 yard of the line. His yards after catch were phenominal considering where most of his catches were. His stats against better teams were much better than those against weaker teams, because we usually ran more against weaker teams. By 3rd game, teams were keying on him for these bubble routes, so he was always guarded close to line. And he had no drops the entire year, except for couple of diving catches he didn't come down with.

As for question of speed he was officially timed by combines last spring 4 times between 4.62 and 4.69, the most recent being 4.62 in June 2008. He ran 3 different shuttles between 4.24 and 4.29. This was 4th fastest at NUC Regional Combine in Dallas last year, and 13th fastest across all 5 NUC regionals countrywide. His offseason speed training and conditioning is pretty intense, and he will likely be running low 4.5's or better by summer.

As for work ethic .. very few can compete with him. This view comes from his offseason trainers, who constantly bring top tier athletes (footbal, track) together for grueling treadmill workouts. He is almost always the "last one standing".

I obviously know him and like his chances at next level .. let's see how it goes.

Are you serious? I just gave the guy some feedback on a local prospect. I also live in the area and knew of the kid - and he isn't considered a top end prospect yet.

I think one thing you should probably know is that it doesn't really matter what type of prospect you are - it's what type of player you are. PJ fleck was on hell of a player. And I agree that this kid from WVHS is a player - if he had top end speed he would probably go BCS no problem. The issue is that he isn't huge and isn't a blazer so big 10 schools and other BCS sometimes ignore that, right or wrong.

Look at the list of coaches recruiting him
Matt Canada - Former NIU Assistant
Dan Roushar - Former NIU Assistant
Thomas Hammock - Former NIU player & Novak Assistant
Rob Ianello - Married to former NIU BB player & the guy I wanted considered to replace Novak
Ron Vanderlinden - Runner up to Novak in 1995 for NIU job
Mark Hagen - Former NIU assistant

Of the 12 coaches listed, 6 have NIU ties, including 5 that were assistants under Novak.

He plays hoops also, can you imagine what a force he'd be as a power forward. He'd be hell to match up with.

"NIU is planning to have a Senior one-day camp at St. Rita on May 31st, the first time NIU has held any camps away from Dekalb and this is a tremendous idea in my opinion.

Also the Huskies are planning to bring back it's Passing 7 on 7 this summer, having it on I believe either June 20th or June 27th as opposed to the end of July as in the recent past."

That is a good idea. Way to go coaches!

Yes.

I am dissapointed in this post. You had a perfect opportunity to insert a picture of Denise and you failed. Next time, one word answers should include a photo when the woman is very attractive.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread
I ran across an article about Mascoutah hiring a new football coach. Where is Mascoutah? Down south by Belleville. East of St. Louis.

His name is Scott Battas and played college ball at NIU:

Quote:Battas made the NIU team as a walk-on receiver and played for the Huskies from 1999-2001. He spent 2002 working as a graduate assistant coach there, then spent 2003 as a varsity assistant at DeKalb High.

Why should you care?

6'6" WR prospect Matt Milton

Quote:Battas also will have one of the top recruits in the Midwest next season in junior all-state receiver Matt Milton.

Before a game of his senior season has been played, Milton already has scholarship offers from Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona and Stanford.

Battas expects Notre Dame to weigh in with an offer before the process ends.

"Matt's really a special player and a special kid. We're really fortunate to have him around here," Battas said. "When these coaches come through here, all they talk about is his size and speed and how they can't find anywhere.

"He's got the things you absolutely cannot teach."

We probably have less than a 5% chance of signing this kid, but you can always dream. Add to the fact we just added a bunch of WRs in this past class I just don't know. He did attend our junior day.

Quote:Although he still must be evaluated on film, running back Brandon Bourboun (Potosi, Mo./Potosi) proved he was an excellent athlete Sunday. The 6-foot, 204 pounder ran a blistering 4.08 shuttle, a 4.54 40, had a 45 in the power ball toss and a 34.3-inch vertical.

Looking at his stats from last season, he can also play a little football. He rushed for 2,420 yards and 29 touchdowns for his high school team.

Northern Illinois and Northwestern are two schools showing interest at this time, along with Oklahoma and Missouri.

Quote:Running back Travis Mullen (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) put up big numbers as a junior, rushing for 1,556 yards and 25 touchdowns. On Sunday, he put up solid numbers at the combine, running a 4.66 40, a 4.41 shuttle, a 30.2 vertical and a 39 in the power ball toss. The 5-10, 181-pounder says he's been getting letters from Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Illinois and Iowa. He also plays defense and could project as a strong safety in college.

Quote:Running back Giorgio Bowers measured 5-8 ½, 201 pounds and ran a 4.26 shuttle and had a 31.6 vertical leap. He said he wished he could have done better in the 40-yard dash (4.82 seconds), but had one of the better times among the running backs at the event. Bowers averaged almost 10 yards per carry last season.

Quote:Northern Illinois is showing interest in quarterback/athlete Jonathan Wolf (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest). He has no offers.

• Running back/defensive back Travis Mullen (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) is getting attention from Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Iowa, Arizona and Illinois. He has no offers.

Quote:Libertyville (Ill.) junior safety/athlete prospect James Zotto (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) was able to partake in a recent junior day event at Northern Illinois University. Zotto, who is also planning ahead and looking at taking several spring and summer visits, talks about his latest football recruiting news and much more in this update. Juniors R Us.

The IL suburban cities of St Louis have some fine football programs with Belleville, E St Louis and the Catholic HS in Alton. Would be wise for the recruiting staff to spend some time in the area.

Funny story. So here I am the other day driving back to MN after a weekend in IL. On the way back, stop to fill up. A car pulls up next to us, says they noticed my NIU sticker on the car. The family inside was driving back from DeKalb, son was checking out the campus and checking out NIU for football. I swear I had seen something on him mentioned here before. Think he said he was a OT and looking to major in Criminal Science??? Nice family.
