Football Scheduling Rumor
I was just at Cardboard Heroes to get my copy of Cheer Cincinnati signed by Byrd, Grutza, and Goody, and a guy behind me in line was telling his friends that there's a very good chance we might be opening the season at Rutgers. He said Mike Waddell was his source, and that we wouldn't be playing a home game until Sept 12. Which would likely be the SEMO game.

Is the guy a crock or is this legit? Anyone?

Don't know about guy's but as a fan of UC I am against opening with a conference opponent. I do not care if it is on ESPN. UC needs time to get the defense set for the year.

Yeah, I'm with you, the scenario is scary as hell. Brand new D, brand new scheme, on the road, against a very game Rutgers team who fell just short of beating us the last two years? At least at first glance I hate it.

RE: Football Scheduling Rumor
It's about time for the Big East to ditch ESPN (the league's so-called "partner"??) if the football schedule continues to get this treatment. There was a bunch of crap ESPNU games with clueless announcers all year long, now they're taking us off of Thursdays.

That's true, but I still hate it. That team is hungry for a W against us. Piscataway's not an easy place to start a new era of defense. They could badly hurt our hopes at returning to South Beach right off the bat.

Yes it is... I actually heard it live and in person from Brian Kelly Thursday night. He said it will be ESPN's college football season opener...

Has the schedule been released yet? Gobearcats.com only shows the 2008 schedule.

No, but I would expect it soon.

I don't like playing a conference opponent in the opener either. I do like an early road game though. Means we will have more games with students on campus.

I doubt if UC had a say in it. Conference games are scheduled by the guys in Providence and ESPN.

We are the DEFENDING BEast Champion. I say kick off the college football season by going to Rutgers and tap that ass AGAIN. 02-13-banana04-rock

I'm with ya! I'll count on Cincy's returning offense being better then Rutgers returning defense...and offense.

RE: Football Scheduling Rumor
I personally think a new defense is easier to install than a new offense. Plus we will be throwing something new at rutgers, thus they can't watch our defensive film from last year. So lets start 09 off with a mother F#$kin bang.

RE: Football Scheduling Rumor
Idk, I don't hate it. If we have to play Rutgers on a Friday Night I think playing them eraly before they find their way on offence is the way to go. Our defence will be young and inexperienced all year anyway, so playing against in all liklihood a rusty offence to open up isn't terrible.

RE: Football Scheduling Rumor
Dunno if anyone's seen this yet, but an independent site has the following listed in our schedule:

9/19 - @ Oregon St
9/26 - Fresno St
10/3 - @ Miami OH

http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-09/big-e...hedule.php

So, assuming this is credible, we now know the order of the first five games of the season. 2 at home, 3 away. Two wins pretty much given (SEMO and Miami) and a game I expect us to win but it'll be tougher than the other two (Fresno). @ Oregon State I'm already penciling in as a loss. @ Rutgers? Who knows. Toss up.

CD - nice to meet you. Obviously I'm not a crock - my info was good.

Here's the opening schedule.

Sept. 4th - @ Rutgers
Sept. 12th - SEMO
Sept. 26th - Fresno State
Oct. 3rd - @ Miami of Ohio
Nov. 28th - Illinois
Remaining Big East games to be finalized in late March/early April.

Hey there, Rag! Thanks for the info. I was a couple of spots behind you in line. What'd you get signed?

Also, perhaps you'd know - so far, obviously, the only game we're not playing on a Saturday is the opener at Rutgers. I'd assume we're slated to play a few more non-weekend games, but have you heard anything about that either way?
