Believing a country of that size has no means to cause harm would be a grave mistake. Literally.
I heard an interview with an oil company industry exec last night...even with the government promising to supplement their insurance lapses...they still have next to no desire to risk the lives of their employees by sending their tankers through right now.
The people aren’t the biggest issue. You can find reckless people to do all kinds of things for enough money.
Their ships are what they are worried about.
They can’t just go to a lot and pick out a new one. If one is lost, it will take years to replace. Shipyards don’t produce on spec in case someone wants one.
True. They're not worried that much about the employees, lol. They're replaceable. Ships take a lot longer.
Meanwhile, my local gas for reg has jumped from $2.49 to $3.19 since this started.

and the next logical step is .... yeppers ... we're preparing to make mincemeat along their entire friggin' coastline...
Quote:U.S. Central Command said it issued a warning Wednesday to civilians "that the Iranian regime is using civilian ports along the Strait of Hormuz to conduct military operations that threaten international shipping."
"U.S. forces urge civilians in Iran to immediately avoid all port facilities where Iranian naval forces are operating. Iranian dockworkers, administrative personnel, and commercial vessel crews should avoid Iranian naval vessels and military equipment," CENTCOM said in a statement.
"The Iranian regime is using civilian ports along the Strait of Hormuz to conduct military operations that threaten international shipping. This dangerous action risks the lives of innocent people. Civilian ports used for military purposes lose protected status and become legitimate military targets under international law," it warned.
"Although the U.S. military also cannot guarantee civilian safety in or near facilities used by the Iranian regime for military purposes, American forces will continue taking every feasible precaution to minimize harm to civilians," CENTCOM also said.

Just taking out targets by order of importance. We are down to the crappy little IRGC speed boats---but those will now start going boom---along with any missile launchers or emplacements we happen to find along the coast. Of course---as always---Iranian leadership remains a priority target on the hunting list.

I just saw a photo of the ship that was hit. It's messed up above deck, but still afloat. Which seems odd if it hit a mine.

Unlike Biden’s and Obama’s bribes and pinpricks, Trump is delivering the means necessary to deal with a threat ongoing for decades.

The LCS would not be a great solo escort in its current configuration. Its way under armed (something that can be fixed, but thats another subject). All Im saying is the LCS can help escort---but its real value at this point is its ability to clear mines. They are actually going to be useful if the gulf is mined.
I get that, but not if they can't adequately defend themselves from attack...and that expert is saying they can't as they currently are configured. They might be just sitting ducks...so tough to ask an American soldier to put themself into that position. So as you say, they would need fixed first...which would take some time...if it's even easily doable.
First---thats not what he said. He said they cant really function as solo escorts because they lack the long-or-mid range anti-air capabilities needed to create a safe anti-air bubble for a convoy. Thats because they really only have have point defense weapons (the Sea-RAM and main gun both have a range of around 9 miles---the 35mm guns something less than that). The LCS would likely be paired with a destroyer---and likely AWACS with look down radars supported by a combat air patrol. Those assets would see launches and would have more than enough ability to intercept. My guess is we'd be looking a convoy type set up where multiple tankers are escorted by LCS (mine sweeping) covered by a destroyer and air assets to provide adequate protection.
Is that riskeir than having ships hundreds of miles away. Of course. But then the Iranian capabilities will be far more degraded by the time such an effort begins.
Interesting.
So is this:
To be fair, we probably could have escorted more it we needed to---and at that time, we made no effort to become a combatant....until one of our ships hit a mine....and then Operation Preying Mantis wiped out a big chunk of their Navy (and that only happened because the Iraniaans elected to escalate what would have been a very proportional US response on a militarized oil platform).

Fox is now reporting that 3 ships have been hit. We are not yet escorting any ships.
Also, Fox is reporting that it seems our military strategy is to let the ships in Hormuz sit, finish the military targets, then worry about the ships in transit. May be a few more weeks, supposedly. Meanwhile, new oil may seek alternate routes out. And some ships may turn back and offload.
Also, there is some doubt that the son of the Ayatollah is still alive.

Because it wasnt a mine and of course you figured that out....
people read things on other boards and rush over to post on this board...like they "heard" something. A simple 30 second google search would have shown that person what they "heard" was BS

With the amount of product that flows through there, 2-3 more weeks of no movement will create an economic disaster for many countries.
If that happens, this could go down as one of the worst decisions ever made by a US president. Seems like they should have made sure they had this secured before they started bombing.
Also, if this goes on another 2-3 weeks, it will become fairly clear that this cannot be done by air and sea alone...and if you think this operation is unpopular now, wait to see how unpopular it becomes if we put boots on the ground and start piling up casualties.
