Insurance companies knew what they are doing. Somebody got a big bonus today for making the call to not cover these properties for fire.

Quote:In 2022, Kristin Crowley was sworn in as the 19th fire chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Her appointment marked the first female and openly gay person to lead the department.
Speaking with NBC 4 on the day her appointment was unanimously confirmed by the City Council, Crowley said she is "super inspired" about bringing diversity into the fire department. She said she’s not looking for a specific "number, it’s never enough."
The report noted that just 115 of the department’s 3,300 firefighters were women at that point and that she had a 3-year plan to increase diversity. Speaking on her sexual identity, Crowley said, "That just kind of opens the door of people that thought, 'Wow I didn’t even know that that was an opportunity for me.' "
According to NBC 4, as deputy chief of the department, Crowley helped create a five-year plan to foster a culture that is more open to change within the department.
Crowley said ahead of coming into the chief role, "As the next fire chief, my priorities will be to ensure the LAFD stands ready and remains operationally efficient to serve our communities and this great city; that we enhance and support our firefighters' safety, health and overall well-being; and that we promote and demand a work environment that is free of harassment, discrimination and hazing."
"Our efforts will be maximized by making sure diversity is celebrated and valued, and that equity and inclusion are intertwined into every policy, procedure and practice."
The clip resurfaced as thousands of acres are burning in the Los Angeles area due to multiple wildfires. The two largest ones, the Palisades and Eaton fires, have burned over 5,000 acres combined.
Under the prior LAFD fire chief, Ralph Terrazas, the LAFD established a Racial Equity Action Plan in accordance with the city’s Racial Equity Vision to "end systemic, institutional, and structural racism in the City of Los Angeles."

Quote:Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing criticism after it was revealed that she cut $17.6 million from the city’s fire department budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The reduction, the second-largest cut in the budget, had initially been proposed at $23 million, according to a report by the New York Post.
LA City Controller Kenneth Meija noted the budget cuts in October, with a graphic shared by the official showing the $17.6 million cut to the fire department’s budget, which was only outdone by a $21.4 million cut to street services. According to Newsweek, Bass had proposed a $12.8 billion cut in the city’s budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year in April, and in June signed the budget.
The resurfacing of this decision comes as wildfires continue to threaten the city. Adding to the controversy, Bass is on her way back from a trip to Africa for the inauguration of Ghana’s president while the fires rage. Despite her absence, Bass has praised firefighters and emergency crews for their efforts, saying they are working “overnight to protect Angelenos affected by fires.”
“Angelenos should be advised that the windstorm is expected to worsen through the morning and to heed local warnings, stay vigilant and stay safe,” Bass posted on X.
The wildfires, which began Tuesday, have burned over 5,000 acres, destroyed homes, and forced residents to evacuate in large numbers. The fires remain uncontained as of Wednesday morning, and reports indicate that some firefighters have run out of water while battling the flames. Former LA mayoral candidate Rick Caruso explained to Fox 11 that “There’s no water in the Palisades. There’s no water coming out of the fire hydrants."
"We’ve got a mayor that’s out of the country, and we’ve got a city that’s burning, and there’s no resources to put out fires,” he explained.
These idiots have been letting record amounts of rainfall and snow melt just pour right off into the Pacific cause “reasons”. The river smelt or something. Now they are running OUT OF WATER.
How do they now propose to make the water needed to fight this for weeks going forward?
Stupid is as stupid does. Sorry for your loss, hearts and minds…thoughts and prayers.
Regardless of their political leanings, I don't wish anything like what they're going through out there in Los Angeles on anyone. I pray that God places His Healing Hand over everybody affected, and that they learn from this and start taking the proper measures to prevent something like this from happening in the future. I say that because two people died because of the fires. May they rest in peace.

The majority of those affected not only voted for what is happening, but a large number have donated to the incompetent politicians who have set the policies of incompetence.
