2008 was supposed to be the transformational election that ushered in a new style of American electorate. 2010 was supposed to be the last gasp of the people that wouldn't stop clinging to their guns and religion. The Dems were supposed to move to the left while the GOP was supposed to evolve into Diet Dem
The Tea Party led to MAGA and dashed those plans, especially when pulled it off and won in 2016. The elite in both parties want the MAGA faction out
The tea party wanted a smaller government, balanced budget, and lower taxes. MAGA is only one of those. They just want spending in other areas.

MAGA had 4 years to make the government smaller and to balance the budget. Instead they raised spending and had record deficits before Biden the buffoon got into office.

I'm sure a worldwide pandemic and veto proof spending bills had nothing to do with that.

No doubt that the pandemic played a role, but even before that the spending was ridiculous.
As far as the spending bills, the Republicans had control of the house, senate, and Presidency for the first 2 years of the Trump administration. Nothing was done about the spending, and Trump was requesting more money for different parts of the government.

The Republicans in Congress were bigger opponents to Trump than the Democrats were. They were SURE he was gonna be taken out because of RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA. The McCain thumbs down photo during the Obama care Cancelation vote said it all. That won't happen this go around. It will be a fire sale on day 1. That's why the Left, including the media, are pulling all the stops.

Unfortunately, that's true. And if Trump wins, I would bet he continues that trend, since he can't run for a third term.
Something has to be done about this before the country goes bankrupt and we become Greece, but I don't see anybody really standing up to make it happen.
Meanwhile, Trump over Harris is the biggest no-brainer in American history.
Otherwise, we may not have a country anybody wants to live in, even before we go bankrupt.

You have way more faith than I do. I think it is likely just another shift in where the money goes.

Tea Party was about fiscal responsibility. MAGA is more about bringing back blue collar jobs. Tea Party was about the future. MAGA is about now. But MAGA was never about spending a bunch of money. Its just that balanced budgets were not a priority.

“kill that [MAGA] strain of the Republican Party”
Isn’t it odd that Trump is running well ahead of the generic Republican in competitive senate+ house seats?

The Tea Party's success killed the Tea Party. They made the House competitive after 40 years of Democratic total control and 60 of 64. They forced Clinton to balance the budget, the first balanced budget in decades. Of course the war on Terror and the 2008 recession blew the lid off fiscal responsibility.

Those of you who are younger don't realize. It was stunning when Gingrich took control of the House in 1994. It was assumed the House would always be Democratic.

Are you conflating the actual Tea Party of the 2010s to the Hertitage Foundation/Contract With America?
That definitely did pressure Clinton enough to adopt a more fiscally responsible way of governing, to which he deserves credit in retrospect since nobody else has adopted that style since.
