This news this week from Ross Dellinger was huge on the Memphis front. This is far from over.

...and the news is the SD ST exit fee TRIPLES on July 1st---things could move fast

SD St and SMU going to the PAC could be huge

I hope the 4 corners stay put in the PAC
As a UConn fan, I wholeheartedly agree. If the Pac-12 stays intact and grabs SMU and SDSU, the three top candidates for Big 12 expansion are UConn, Memphis, and UNLV.

Wouldn't that be something.

In your thread titled "when the next dominoes fall May 16th edition" in the realignment forum--you predicted that MEMPHIS would once again be left out when the next dominoes fall.

I don't claim to have inside knowledge, but I find it hard to see SMU getting invite to PAC without any kind of travel partner/other school. They would be such an outlier geographically for the PAC, especially if UT, CO and AZ leave.

This is why I am looking forward to a possible ACC shake up. It’ll be another 6-12 months of “insiders” claiming we are getting in a watered down ACC with Wake, BC and Pitt only for us to end up back in the same gabage league we’re in now. Well, minus FAU, ECU and FAU who move up

It's only you two slow leaks left, everyone else gets it. You're on the same team; two winners.

Of course ^^THIS^^-----they were speculating (probably because they read it here 5K times that we were #2 on everybodys list).

It was/is common knowledge that we hired Smith (HOPING) it would increase our chances of actually being #2 on the list----NOT BECAUSE WE WERE ALREADY IN------If we were already in then why hire Smith.

If all of those great sources that the guy from way up north keeps quoting really believes that we were #2 then they are VERY NAIVE ---and need better sources

Out of all the unintelligent nonsense you come up with (and all of it is), easily the most ridiculous nonsense is how you somehow see yourself as a Conservative. Your post is the exact same opinion that a woke, liberal, socialist, communist. marxist.

That's what you are, Simple Jack.

Sports is one of the few places where socialism works better than the free enterprise system, because of the final goal.

The final goal is to make every competition as close as possible.

We're seeing what free enterprise in sports looks like first with the BCS and then the Power 5 and soon the Power 2.

It began with eliminating half the competition with the BCS and then reducing the competition again with the P5.

The group will be reduced even more with the P2.

Everywhere else the free enterprise system works because of safeguards put in place to prevent abuse, such as anti-trust laws.

But such safeguards don't exist in sports. So the major conferences take part in activities that would be illegal for corporations to do.

An example of the abuse was the University of Texas generating over $200 million in revenue, and all the players got out of it was a free education and room and board. Just because the new system isn't good for us, and many other institutions, and many players, it is still the most fair system.

5) If a coach breaks a rule -they pay the price also----a stronger show clause -longer suspension --and monetary fines--and loss of salary

6) If school had knowledge or was involved in anyway cover ups etc etc -----harsh loss of $$$$ from conference and severe penalties ----repeated offences resulted in some sort of death penalty

If all of the above were truly enforced--we would have our college sports back

Well over 90% of college sports programs lose money.

Another example of people only focusing on incoming revenues while ignoring outgoing.

Look at how many schools had to drop teams because they canceled the NCAA MBB tournament one year.

RE: SI article on P5 expansion

This SI article by Ross Dellenger is about expansion among the P5 and he begins the article detailing a meeting of the Big 12 and Pac-12 that occurred two weeks in Phoenix.

The Tigers are mentioned in a couple of sections.

”Within the meeting rooms, each league’s strategy unfolded ahead of their proverbial territorial battle. Just paces from the Pac-12’s gathering, Big 12 leaders discussed a list of expansion targets, four of them residing in the Pac-12: Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah.

Other targets are from a variety of leagues: San Diego State and UNLV from the Mountain West; UConn, which is independent in football and in the Big East in basketball; and Memphis, from the American. There are others too, such as Colorado State, SMU and Fresno, but they seem further down the pecking order.”
...

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is aggressively pursuing expansion targets in an attempt to reach 14 or 16 members. Top priority are the Arizona schools, Colorado and Utah, but there are plenty of other potential replacements if the Pac-12 programs choose to stay.

Though San Diego State seems bound for the Pac-12—it is their preference—Yormark has held conversations with the school’s leadership about being the Big 12’s only program in the Pacific Time zone. UConn, the reigning men’s basketball champions, is a play for a foothold in the northeast as well as adding another basketball powerhouse to what currently is the best hoops league in the country. And of Memphis, the Tigers finished as a finalist the last time the Big 12 expanded.”

Apparently Yukon is getting a look

As someone who was on full athletic scholarship at a podunk school (ORU) in 1989-1993, I can tell you that they get a WHOLE LOT more than what you listed.

And, that was a small private school, 30 years ago, that was going thru financial hard times.
