But we've also had issues. Other than this year's team, we haven't really reached our stride until after Christmas. With Penny's teams, it's taken a while to gel.
My concerns with this team:
1.) This will be a late arriving team. Given the gelling issues mentioned above, even if we put together an all-star mercenary team, we're going to have issues early on.
2.) I don't even think we can put together an all-star mercenary team based on what's in the portal. The deadline is only a couple of weeks away. At best right now, we might be able to scrape together a Tchewa or a Cisse underneath and maybe a Bradley in the backcourt. That's a bubble-team at best.
3.) The roster is so damn imbalanced. We really need TWO bigs and TWO pgs AND a scorer. Penny can pull a rabbit (or two) out of his hat, but I don't see this roster being very balanced. This is going to push his positionless basketball philosophy to the brink.
At best, I see us getting a roster together that can vie for a title in the American and maybe settle in as an 8 to 10 seed. That's not what any one was hoping a couple of months ago with our recruiting class.
This will be a big test for Penny. Will he double-down on positionless basketball? Will we see Dandridge back on the roster? If we're rolling with Malco, Jayden, and Ashton-- and we struggle-- do the complaints of nepotism and stubbornness get louder?
