Congressional Hearings
The new NCAA President is scheduled to testify before a congressional committee which is investigating NILs in an attempt to reign in out of control NILs. The committee is considering legislation

Interesting. Exactly what Nancy Pelosi said Congress wouldn't do when the NCAA previously appealed to Congress for NIL legislation, saying the NCAA should do their own legislation. As the wind blows, I guess

Actually, it seems to be working pretty well. Think recruits will think twice about Florida now?

You do realize Nancy Pelosi is no longer the speaker right?

Yes, I don't live under a rock. I was pointing out the aboutface of Congress on this issue that in the last session of Congress there was no interest in this issue except to tell the NCAA to develop & enforce it's own policies regarding NIL with the message that the NCAA shouldn't run to Congress to solve problem it should solve.

Seems like singling out Nancy Pelosi for a statement she made as speaker concerning an about face by the current congress for which she is no longer in charge is disingenuous. I know that’s a long sentence, but just sayin.

Found the following in an ESPN article.

“The hearing will be led by a pair of Republicans: committee chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Washington and Florida's Gus Bilirakis, who chairs the subcommittee of Innovation, Data and Commerce.”

Don’t remember that although it could be true. What I remember is the cowardly, ineffective NCAA leadership wrote a letter to Pelosi and McCarthy asking for congress to create legislation to form national NIL laws. The House and senate held committee hearings with action coming out of either. Since Republican DNA is to support state rights they wanted to focus on a very narrow legislative agenda that supported a national “standard” for athletes selling their NIL. Dems wanted more broadly stated legislation that included health and education reforms. Neither side has been successful.

The new congressional committee is led by 2 republicans.

The NCAA is mostly focused on asking sure they can’t be sued and declaring student athletes are not employees of colleges.

Like I said, Congress did nothing in last term, the NCAA did nothing for years & now we have the wild west.

Things have moved way too fast in the past 20 years.

Government oversight is usually bad.

But it is better than no oversight.

Only a matter of time before someone realizes that traveling across state lines to play constitutes interstate commerce.

If the P5 conferences continue with what has happened over the past 20 years they will find themselves regulated by the ICC.

NO ONE WANTS THAT.

The congress is elected by the people, so why are they so untrustworthy? Maybe it is because they do not represent the people, maybe it because the represent the people and corporations that fund their lavish lifestyles and well funded retirements. Repeal Citizens (nee corporations) United.
