I hope USC can slide in, but if they do, they are looking at an 11/12 play-in game. I would rather see them than freaking Rutgers.

We might be in the mid twenties when they update the net. A 40 point beatdown on a neutral court has a way to move that number drastically.

Currently 18 in the rpi. (which doesnt take into consideration the 40 point beatdown, only that we won.)

Yep thats big. Im gonna guess from 31 to 29/28 in the NET. If we beat Houston I say 24ish. Thats gonna be tough to not give us a 7 seed

I don’t think tomorrow will mean a whole lot with seeding. The brackets are basically decided. What it does mean is another big victory and good ball play. Entering the tournament hot with one of the best PG’s in the country.

Missouri being projected as a 7 above us is bull****. They’ve got multiple losses of around 30 points (Kansas, Alabama, Auburn) and a few more 20 point beatings.

RE: [Computer Rankings thread]
Just as I expected. Despite some in the media - and one particular person here - ranting about the NET being the be-all, end-all criteria...it wasn't. "We gotta figure out how to game the system, blah, blah."

I pulled the top 9 seed equivalents using the final NET rankings, and compared it to actual seeding by the committee. Here are the conferences listed from better seeding to worst, with the amount of improvement they had versus the NET.

1. ACC +2.00 seeds improvement on average
2. B10 +1.40
3. B12 +0.57
4. BEast +0.25
5. PAC no change
6. AAC -1.00
7. SEC -1.17
8. WCC -1.50
9. MWC -2.67
10. Summit -3.00
11. CUSA -5.00

The top 5 are all the power conferences. It would have been a clean sweep had the AAC not edged out the SEC. This is largely due to the NET continuing to rate UTK as a 1-seed, despite the Vawls losing every other game they played during the last 2 months. At least the committee didn't fall for that, and moved UTK down to a 4 seed - which drug down the SEC in this comparison.

In reality, KenPom's rankings are closer to the actual seeding than the NET was. KP was off by an average of 0.06 per seed (for this group of ~top 9 seed). The NET was off by 0.28 per seed.

It's all subterfuge for getting the teams in that they want in - i.e. the money schools, i.e. the "power" schools. They've got just enough cover, to point to different criteria to justify whatever they want. And national media is complicit, because they're making money too. Yes, the media will always have a day or 2 to talk about the bubble teams who didn't make it. But they quickly move on - and they never call the committee out on how they take better care of the big conferences.

RE: [Computer Rankings thread]
So far in tournament play:

1. The mountain west team in the 11 playin game just got stomped by 25 points. The entire conference is overrated.

2. To ensure they spread their crappiness around, the MWC team New Mexico got beat handidly by Utah Valley in the NIT.

3. The other 11 play-in game was a 1 point win by Pitt over Miss St. So both of those teams were equally crappy and shouldnt have been in. But at least they werent MWC bad.

4. One thing I'm glad this committee did was to keep top 25 poser Rutgers out. Rutgers just lost to Hofstra in the NIT.

5. For the butthurt Clemson fans who cried about not making the NCAA, you didnt do a good job of making your case by losing to Morehead St.

6. Cinci UCF and future member UAB all won.

If SDSU wins today, two of the Final 4 will be from outside the power structure.
Future conference mate in the NCAA F4 and two are in the NIT F4.
Departing schools were 2-1 in the NCAA. Newcomers are 4-0.
In the NIT, the departed were 3-2. Newcomers are 6-0
