Negative. Voices are not sticking with the team or the Program or University

RE: FRIDAY MEN BB-- GAME MOVED TO NOON?????
I need to get this out before threads like this explode (at least in my head). And I suspect many long-time fans at least have some thoughts along the same lines. (Sorry in advance for length.)

Along with touting good things and good achievements, an athletic program needs people willing to gripe and/or expose problems because, generally, that's how things can get better ... IF the A.Dept. pays attention.

I came on to this board in early 2018 after decades of watching, listening, talking to people, being involved "on the ground" directly and indirectly ... and of course supporting the Huskies. I hoped to learn more than I knew, and sometimes I did. I also learned some things I didn't like.

Sometimes posting the faults, inconsistencies, problems, mistakes, etc., encourages those with better connections to push the A.Dept. I hope that because I know for a fact that sometime in the 1980s, the A.Dept. mantra shifted to an "internalist" mode of operation. I.e., "we know what's best and we'll let you know when we decide." Actual fan input was corralled by bringing in those who toed the "company line." It continues to be that way.

The Dog Pound is the proverbial "breath of fresh air." Yeah, some people joke or get sarcastic. Some people jab just because they can. Typical forum.

But if you read through, most are hoping for/wanting improvement. Most are real supporters. Most care. This is the group where I count myself (and have a ton of info-based posts to prove it, including a proposal or two that was acknoledged by the A.Dept.).

R.e., the whole "Victor E." thing ... a lot of effort and time went into building the Victor E. part of the Huskies brand, for those things where appropriate. The "Victor E. Pub" idea actually came from someone (not me) on this board. They not only posted here, but convinced A.Dept people it was a good idea. And it is a welcome addition to the Convo. (And kudos to whoever it was who came up with "Touchdown Village" at Huskie Stadium. I think last year there was also an alumni gathering spot for football, but I forget the name.) To flip that effort just to be cute, or because of a typo, or just to be different, is not helping.

If you don't "get it," no matter. I am done on this.

RE: FRIDAY MEN BB-- GAME MOVED TO NOON?????
This whole time I thought the "Victory" pub was intentionally named with a "y". I really thought--still do think---that Victor E, the mascot--a dog--is much more relatable to kids and since "Victory" pub is 100% involved with alcohol.

I never gave it a second thought along branding opportunities or anything like that.

---and just throwing it out there---it's kind of silly to argue amongst ourselves---there are really only about a dozen on here that are anywhere between occasional and frequent posters.

If we didn't CARE we wouldn't complain.
If we were braindead we wouldn't complain.
Maybe the braindead Kevins and Karens complaining about complaining should STFU!

The irony of the braindead intellectuals at NIU moving the game time up to noon is for those of us going to the game will put us smack dab in the middle of any potential nasty weather. From what I see and have been seeing since yesterday is this storm will be completely out of the Chicago region by 6pm!

Too, EMU's tournament hopes rest on this game. EMU is coming to play. By half time with a 7pm start, EMU, win or lose, would know their outcome of their tournament hopes. Miami will probably lose, CMU should win, a 3 way tie eliminates EMU is the way I read it based on having the worst overall record amongst the 3.
EMU is coming to play. A MUST win for EMU.
Hope NIU has coffee in their locker room.

Looking forward to a win today and ending 9-9 even for the MAC games.

Really interested to hear after game who is introduced for Sr. Night. This has become the point in time whether you know if a player is coming back the next year or not.

Go Huskies!

I watched the press conference after the Buffalo game where Thornton and Crump were on the dais. Both gave the impression they would not be back. Hope I am wrong. Burno when asked if Williams could play in the tournament said NO he is done, as he has the worst kind of ACL tear.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kinda saw the same thing. Seems like a little weird decision. I wonder who made it... and the exact reasoning on why. I am not sure that "weather" is really a very good reason. It kinda, in a way, exemplifies the lack of respect for the fans. But I have to say, I am out of town. I am not sure the weather situation. But the idea to move the start time seems weird, and perhaps not a fully baked idea.

And Dude----it appears that EMU will be driving back WITH whatever "storm" there is rather than have it gone if they had pulled out of here at 9:30--10:00 this evening. In fairness the move was probably made to accommodate EMU's travel much more than any impact in DeKalb.

RE: FRIDAY MEN BB-- GAME MOVED TO NOON?????
The more I see, the more I think moving start time was stupid. And what about the "student athletes'" classes??? seriously? so they now have to miss Friday classes because some one thought moving the game was a good idea? What about student workers to work concessions. What about all those 7,000 or so student fans in the back of the basket verbal abuse section? They all have to miss class now? What about Bill Baker? You don't think he has a day job? And Sid Simmons, and Rodney... Andy...????? All because DeKalb MAY get 1/2 inch of snow?

Geez....
I won't "complain," but nothing wrong with pointing out what looks like a bad decision. And I have given a TON of good ideas on ways to increase attendance over the years and have been ignored. So, I don't owe anyone to hiold back on mere question or observations.

Funny, I just had a conversation this morning with someone about marketing, and she was saying how in marketing you have to market to the customer you have, not to the "ideal customer" or the one you wish you had. I about keeled over. I told her I needed to get her a job in the NIU A. Dept. That's been the whole issue for years (since J. Phillips left, maybe). STF wants fans to be like Alabama, Wisconsin, ND. But that's not who we are. Ignore and alienate game day walk-up fans and they will find other things to do. And here we are.

I agree and don't think that is a negative. The only entities that have to be there are the teams. January/February/early March weather is often unpredictable in many regions of the country and just happen to happen. Not only that, but the forecast has been difficult for the meteorologists too because of the temp being close to the 32 degree line. Yesterday the warning said it was a Winter Storm Warning. Today, it's a Winter Weather Advisory with lower snow predictions. And this is mostly based on the uncertainty of the temperature.

It's always better to err on the side of caution and, with EMU traveling, their accommodations have to be made earlier than any fan who is in the area. Decisions like this have deadlines otherwise you run the risk of a worst case scenario and, with situations like this storm, the most up to date information is always going to be the best info but sometimes you don't have the luxury of waiting until the last minute so you do the best you can.

Love me a good Sid Simmons reference. Had classes with his daughter, Shannon, back in the day!

Yup. Good start...weathered a little run in the middle and then finished strong at the end of the half.

Bates looks like he'd rather be anywhere but where he is right now. Arguing with a fan in the first row, completely dejected and unfocused.

EMU in general looks disinterested but for a couple of guys.

We gotta step on them to open the 2nd and a big part of that is for Coit (2 points) to get going. If you allow a team like this to hang around, often they will eventually take advantage of it.
