And now Payton hurts his hand/wrist swinging on the rim on an emphatic dunk.

Come on Jacobs, tight game, you shouldn’t be forcing up an 18 foot clunker.

Must be ok, he’s had 2 more monster jams since returning. 04-chairshot

Yeah, I agree. Gio reminds me of some of the heart-filled leaders in the past where he isn't quite the star, but he makes everyone else better for being on the court (like Mike Scott or Bryan Bedford). Sullinger is a blast but he isn't the defensive player Gio is.

I feel like our guys play very emotionally. I can almost see the dopamine spilling out of their ears when attempting a play. They're not selfish, just emotional. Play smart. Let the game come to you. And for the love of everything let's not give up so many rebounds.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio
I thought we were the better team tonight for sure. The first half I thought we actually played really well, OU just hit a lot of shots. Some were open but a lot were contested. We played great on Wilson particularly in the first half. I believe his pivot foot made it back to Athens well before the team bus tonight. It got it's steps in tonight.

The second half I thought was almost all Kent except for a couple things that made it closer than it had to be. First, early in the second half there was a stretch of only 20-30 seconds that started with us down three then OU hit a circus layup that looked like 90% luck. We quickly came back and found Hornbeak completely open under the basket. He spiked the ball off the rim and OU drilled a three seconds later. That put us down 8 and we'd spend the next 4-5 minutes crawling out of that. Second, we gave up way too many second chance points in the second half. We'd play great defense get the stop we needed, and fail to clear it.

The other thing I wanted to mention, we got away with some bad decisions down the stretch. Up 6 and with it, Jacobs pulled up for a mid range jump shot with at least 14 left on the shot clock. There was around 1:20 left at that point, could've shortened the game a bit and got a better look. Next was the defensive rebound/goaltend by Thomas. Should it or shouldn't it have been called? That's not what I'm interested in. The question is wtf is he thinking leaving that call up to the refs? From where I was sitting I couldn't see if it was on line so I don't know if it would've hit the rim. However, I had a pretty good look at the trajectory and it looked like it was definitely coming up well short. So I think there's a near zero percent chance he actually took points away by doing that. It was just a total bone headed play to put yourself in that position. We probably got lucky it wasn't called. Need to be smarter at the end of games.

Any vocally upset OU fans or coaches I would just say... That call didn't cost you a win. It may have cost you a chance at hoping we miss free throws (two, we were past our one and ones) so you can get a shot at tying. But like I said the shot looked to have no chance of going in. So really all it was was a gift you were nearly given.

Bang on anti-zip. As for that air ball Thomas went up to snag, it was definitely going to be short but there were e of our guys right there and no Bobcats anywhere near, no need to go up and try to make a play that didn’t need to be made. And you’re right, don’t leave that up to the refs.

That pretty much summed up the highs and lows of the game without a bunch of swearing that I had.
I'd also add, I always hate playing OU. For some reason they bring their best against us more times than not.

Continue to be impressed with Payton. He’s looking to attack the rim every time he touches the ball near the paint (he even attacked it once last night on a fake hand-off 25’ from the basket…very nice!). He’s a very confident guy right now.

Another thing…love how Sully is taking it to the rim…kid is so quick that he can create a shot anytime he needs to. This should eventually give him more open looks for the three.

Lastly, attendance listed at 1,988…total BS. Had to be at least 2,700 or so. I have no idea who is responsible for this but I sure hope they’re not from our math department.

I’m guessing the attendance figure was thrown off due to the ticket program being compromised. Perhaps they had that many in the system before it shut down and nobody wanted to manually tally up the rest. But looking at the crowd via the broadcast it certainly seems your number is closer to the true amount.

Yeah the "ticketing system" last night was someone with a laptop asking you your name then writing your seat number on a piece of paper. I'm sure getting an accurate count wasn't their top priority. I wonder if this will be fixed by Friday? Has anyone heard if we were the only team affected or was it everyone using this system?

By the way, props to the kid that sunk the half courter for $10k at halftime last night. I couldn't help but think thank god it didn't happen to Akron that might've bankrupted them.

Accurate depiction of how it would've gone down if that happened at Akron...

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio
*Thats a good team that Kent State beat last night. Not the best matchup for the Golden Flashes but KSU was able to impose their will at the end. I don't think there is anything for Kent to apologize for. If any KSU fans are still thinking that this team should win these games going away, I fear that is a mistake.

*I am surprised that Jacobs fired that jump shot with 12+ left on the shot clock last night. Rollins did the same thing on Saturday at BG and Coach Senderoff got into him immediately. Difference is Jacobs is a senior. Not the time of year for that stuff.

*I will save my thoughts about seeding and tournament draw for the Akron thread.
