What ever happened to the UAB club hockey team?

Birmingham, even the state, needs to build more ice rinks for hockey

I think it lost steam after they lost ability to associate w/ UAB & have pretty much folded. I wouldn't mind seeing them come back as a sport & maybe add women's lacross w/ so many local hs now playing it.

I have been an advocate of UAB DI Hockey with adding Women's Lacross and Gymnastics. I also would love for UAH Hockey to come back. When I hit the power ball I will be funding Hockey for us along with a 4,500 seat Hockey Arena downtown with my name on it and I will bring back UAH Hockey. :-)

So no Hockey any time soon.....

I still miss the days of the ECHL. Even though the auditorium in Mobile was awful for hockey, and basketball, we had some really good crowds. Then, like always, Pensacola and Biloxi got teams and fan support trickled off. Same with the Bears baseball team.

But a proper Barn for any team is important. If the floor at the Bill Harris Arena at the Crossplex was a little bigger, it would make a great building for hockey.

The ECHL was fun! The Bulls had some awesome rivalries with the Louisiana IceGators, Mississippi SeaWolves and others.

Why did they lose the ability to associate with UAB? Does UAB not do club sports anymore? I've been out of the loop since I moved away from Birmingham (although it was great to get to go to the UAB v Georgia Tech game shortly after I moved to Atlanta)

Club sports still exist at UAB. There are rugby and lacrosse club teams. There are a lot of requirements to maintain club status. I would presume the hockey club couldn’t meet those anymore

The “Attalla Hockey Dome” would confuse the hell out of visiting teams.

We’ll, if you’re not planning on calling it the ‘Ubiquitous Attalla Blaze (UAB) Field House’ or the ‘Attalla Ale Arena’, then here’s an idea! How about calling it ‘Pauley Pavilion’? That would have a nice, legendary ring to it.
