NBR: bammer basketball murder
https://www.al.com/news/2023/02/darius-m...stify.html

Alabama’s freshman basketball standout Brandon Miller brought the gun used on the Tuscaloosa strip killing of a woman that led to capital murder charges for his now former teammate Darius Miles and 20-year-old Michael “Buzz” Davis, according to law enforcement testimony today.

Alabama coach Nate Oats said Tuesday that Miller is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement.

“We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said.

Roll Tide.

I guess I can see not getting charged if the DA can't make the case that he knew the gun would be used in the commission of a crime, but how the fsck does that still not get you kicked off the team

Edit: Also, how is "why didn't you charge that guy" a question the gd DISTRICT ATTORNEY can't answer?

Brandon is the main star of the team compared to Darius Miles

Wait, another question..don't these guys live on campus? Been a while since I was a student of the University of Alabama System, and Alabama's gun laws have become...quite liberal...but I'm almost positive you can't have a gun in your dorm room on campus

Dated 21 December 2022:

Except as otherwise stated in this policy, the University prohibits the possession, transportation, and use of firearms and other dangerous weapons on campus at any time. This policy applies to all persons on campus, including faculty, staff, students, contractors, patients, residents, and visitors.

The exceptions are listed later as members of law enforcement, private security with police powers, ROTC and rifle team.

Are you FN kidding me? This isn't just careless activity. He made a block and an assist. And the tone from Oats, who already was a megadouche, is even worse.

Thank Gene for Andy Kennedy and the fine young men that represent our university. I'd rather see them throw it away in transition than throw away someone's life like it means nothing.

We've had some athletes commit some pretty awful crimes in the not to distant past.

Yeah, I was about to say UAB's reputation isn't exactly crystal clean here

While this is true, I don't recall any UAB coach saying, in essence, "Oh well. Boys will kill girls."

Well, one of the articles mentions some apartments and it's not clear if they're on or off campus apartments, but I'd be willing to bet, even if you ignore the fact that gun probably lives in his car all the time, he drove through a University owned property to get from his apartment to the location of the shooting

Just absurd all around

Apparently they texted him to bring the gun and he used his car to help block people from leaving the scene?

This makes me hate bammer so much more. Disgusting.

Oates with one of the more ridiculous, tone-deaf statements I've ever heard.

Also, the University has known about these details for awhile. In the same season that three players were involved in/at a murder scene, Oates gets a big raise and ccontract extension.

Pretty sure that raise and extension came *after* the murder

You could have videotape proof that Nick Saban was second in command of Al Qaeda in August of 2001 and it wouldn't matter. Just win, nothing else matters

The DA came out and said there was no crime to charge Miller with. Not sure how that is, but maybe Miller is going to turn witness on the non-basketball player and this was part of a plea (no charges, for testimony)...who knows

Also, how was he at the wrong place at the wrong time when he knew why he was going and a gun was needed. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time that is NOT

He even mentions that there is one in the chamber as he hands the gun off, and Miller's car got two shots through the windshield.

It says that Miles admitted to all of this. It doesn’t sound like there is anything Miller could offer that will help the case. They got upset a girl turned them down and killed her over it. The star basketball player supplied the gun that resulted in this murder. I don’t care what school this is, it’s pathetic that it’s just glossed over like nothing happened.

I'd imagine for Miller, he's out early to the NBA is all that will happen. The NBA will probably have a morals type clause in his contract to cover themselves. There's rules for the haves & rules for everyone else

If they knew all this and still let him play, I don’t see why they would stop now. You look even worse suspending him after the news becomes public in that situation.
