RE: Bearcats in the NFL-2022
Des just named the starter for the Falcons after their bye week. Big news, hopefully he can take advantage for the rest of the season.

More on that in this CBS Sports article...

Quote:Falcons coach Arthur Smith left the door open for a potential quarterback change after Atlanta's Week 13 loss to the Steelers. Now, he's pulled the trigger on just that, benching Marcus Mariota for rookie Desmond Ridder ahead of the team's Week 14 bye, according to NFL Media. A third-round draft pick this April, Ridder will make his debut in Week 15 against the rival Saints.

"We've got to get over this hump here, and there are a lot things at stake," Smith told reporters after Sunday's loss, which dropped Atlanta to 5-8 on the season. "(Any changes are) going to be what's best for this team short term and long term."

"If you think it's the best thing for you in that moment, yeah, we're going to do that," he added later, regarding a potential QB change. "That's what you're paid to do. Our circumstances are very different today than they were a couple of weeks ago."

The Falcons are technically still in the NFC playoff picture, and have just one less win than the NFC South-leading Buccaneers. But they've lost two straight and four of their last five while struggling offensively. In each of their last four losses, the Falcons have failed to eclipse 17 total points. While injuries to big names like tight end Kyle Pitts have impacted that side of the ball, Mariota has been erratic as a passer all season, mostly finding success as a runner.

Signed this offseason to replace Matt Ryan, Mariota exits the starting gig having thrown 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while rushing for 438 yards and four scores. Ridder, 23, has yet to take his first NFL snap. The Cincinnati product impressed teams coming out of college with his smarts and leadership, per NFL Media, but is obviously unpolished as a pro-level passer. Theoretically, he'll open up Atlanta's aerial attack a bit more than Mariota, who's often leaned more on his legs.

Ridder will have the bye week to prepare as the Falcons' starter before taking on New Orleans on Dec. 18.

The time is now.

Des debut = 13/26 for 97 yds 0 tds, 5 for 20 rushing yds. At least he didn't turn it over.

Better than that, he actually had the Falcons in position to drive for the game tying or winning score until a receiver fumbled while running the ball after a nice pass from Des in the last 2 minutes or so. Not great numbers for Des obviously but he did a great job of managing the game and keeping the Falcons in it against a rival that is very familiar with Atlanta. Can't really complain much for a rookie's first start

Des looked good when throwing to Drake London. Other times he was missing badly. Looked like Des at the beginning of college, up to the drive where he had them in a position to win.

What is going on with J Deguara this year? He is still listed as active on the Packers roster, but have seen very little about him this year.

I just saw him in the FB position against Miami today. I guess that's the reason I'm not seeing much on the stat sheet.

Des is such a natural leader. Teammates always seem to respond to him.

Speaking of recruiting rankings that aren't always indicative of a player's true ability and potential for the NFL...I couldn't be more proud - BEARCAT PROUD! - of how this young man has handled his life, his college and now pro career. A true leader on and off the field. We can use his recent success in recruiting others to our program no doubt.

3 Bearcats recognized as first team all pros; both Kelces and Sauce. Traavis' fourth and Jason's fifth essentially means both are HOF locks if they weren't already. Looked at the list and not sure any other school has 3.

Schools with more than one first team All Pro:
1) Alabama 4
2) Cincinnati 3
t3) Ohio State 2
t3) Oklahoma 2

3 is insanely elite.

Mel Kiper released his top 10 prospects at each position (plus a just missed) list and only a single Bearcat is on his list. He has Josh Wylie as the #2 FB/H-Back prospect.

Makes sense...we didn't have anywhere near the top end talent of the last couple years. Tyler Scott is just a victim of having a TON of high level WRs this year in the draft too...he'd be the only one who might warrant consideration there.

FB/H-Back who stands 6 foot six?

I was more saying that it makes sense that he's the only one getting any mention.

Yeah, I wasn't replying directly to you just including the convo. I don't understand how Mel doesn't consider Josh a TE prospect vs a typically shorter, stouter FB/HB. He's got all the tools to succeed as an NFL TE IMHO.
