I recall this happened during a transition period years ago when the NCAA went from university and college divisions to Divisions I, II, III, or when Division I subdivided.

I can see if one or two Division II schools are considering a change to a different division.

Anything is possible, but this is like speculating if the moon and a block of cheese can merge.

Same thing happened with the Indiana Collegiate Conference when the NCAA instituted 3 divisions - it had schools in all 3 before eventually folding.

Sounds like formula for success.

GSC and ASUN to merge since ASUN is in danger of losing more schools. Only school that I see stays in D2 is Shorter. It would give the conference enough schools to break from football and non-football schools like planned.

Football schools:
Austin Peay
UCA
UNA
EKU
Delta State
Mississippi College
West Alabama
West Georgia
West Florida
Valdosta State

It could open up a Louisianna Southland schools to join.

Non football:
Jacksonville
North Florida
FGCU
Stetson
UAH
Montevallo
Lee
Union
Lipscomb
Queens
Bellarmine
Christian Brothers

These could be future targets.
Florida Tech
Tampa
Nova Southeastern
St. Leo
Augusta
Columbus State
North Georgia
Barry
Lincoln Memorial
Francis Marion

North Florida could add football and join the football schools.

Southland, WAC, Summit, OVC, NEC, AEC etc all could do the same. Big West could merge with the all large public California schools which could bring in more LA and northern California for travels.

MEAC could get the CIAA to merge with them at the D1 level.

It could be endless ideas on how to save money in athletics.

North Greenville is part of the Gulf South Conference. Would they be included? If they are, they aren't on the list.

North Greenville is part of Conference Carolinas. Maybe Big South and Conference Carolinas could merge? In the future, there is talks a split in all sports at D1 for 1A and 1AA for all sports. Some of the D2 conference could become 1AA for all sports in the future.

You're right. They're a football only affiliate with the Gulf South Conference while being a full member of the Conference Carolinas. Perhaps the Big South should look into bringing them up should they lose more members.

North Greenville
UNC-Pembroke

Belmont Abbey was looking to restarting football.
Converse which became co-ed a couple of years ago.
Emmanual
Francis Marion
King
Lees-McRae
Mount Olive
Southern Wesleyan

Radford, High Point and Longwood all could be grabbed by CAA in the future.
