They should be going down across the board in coming years. The reasons are pretty easy to understand. The Baby Boomers drove the expansion of colleges, along with the rise of major companies offering huge benefits. As the Boomers age out, and their kids, those companies are largely gone, along with the benefits. The need now is for technicians and specialists, which sends those folks to trade schools.

Hardgrave spoke of enrollment and all the indicators are noting that enrollment for most universities will be trending downward. It is what it is. Look at Cincy and L'ville over the same period. Not much growth there either.
You cannot compare us to Central Florida. Orlando has had a crazy population boom; meanwhile, Memphis area is only noting a small if any growth

Trending downward now, but not from 1912 up until now.

The university enrollment likely mirrors area population trends & this area has been, growthwise, pretty stagnant.

I was going to post this anyway once I got back to posting, but I had found this from Cincinnati. Claw mentioned enrolling in 1977 and coincidentally the CIN numbers listed go back to 1977. They updated it at some point because it is dated 2018, but it has numbers up to 2020. They had a decline that bottomed out in the late 90s/early 00s. After that their numbers took off.

I would say it's not that. Carnegie classifications are based on things like R&D spending and doctorate degrees. When I used to look at the R&D numbers leading up to the next round of classifying, Memphis had ok spending. So they probably worked on things related to their doctorate numbers. There were schools that had already been R1 that had lower undergraduate enrollments than Memphis.

Blue Oval City will be a game changer for this area. And they will have a tech school on campus. I have no idea how that will impact the Univ of Memphis, but if I were Hardgrave and staff, I'd be working on relationships with Ford and SKI as a very high priority.

I"m sure they are building those relationships as we speak!

I agree. If nothing else it should help grow the DMA.
