RE: Let's go after Cal
When the Chris Beard situation is resolved...if he is cleared of any wrongdoings...he would be outstanding. Great recruiter, great coach, and has the propensity to approach the refs a little more aggressively than Penny lol. Plus, with his reputation taking a hit could be hired cheaper than the worth of his name.

Most of us have forgiven Cal. It was over a decade ago when he left.
Cal is on the hot seat at UK.
Lets bring him back.

most of us?
You let Cal wander int FedEx Forum during a Memphis Tiger game...and I guarandamntee you 'most' of the crowd would boo his azz.
Quite a few people have not forgiven him, and it isn't a question of maturity or anything of the sort.
I have the right not to cheer for the man. No man or woman has the right to tell me how to be a Memphis Tiger fan. I can cheer or boo anyone I fricking like. I've been a fan for 50 years now...and yes there are people older than me here in our forum who have been fans longer...but they can't tell me either...nor would I try to tell them how to 'be a real fan'.
He denigrated us at damn near every turn. Played us for fools while he was coaching our team...pretending he was going to run off to NC State...then leak the news he was talking to NC State thru outside sources to get the Memphis admin to pay his staff more money.
The really stupid thing about that is...it wasn't necessary. Memphis would have paid him that and then some.
We all know the rest. The Missouri NCAA game, taking the UK job while still coaching the Tigers in the Missouri game, pretending he was 'soul searching and thinking about whether to accept the UK job or not...meanwhile his staff was calling all the recruits recruited on Memphis' dime and telling them to follow the staff to UK. Blowing thru his $50,000? clothing allotment for the year...big shopping spree...and then leaving .
When he got to UK...he was complaining how Memphis 'made him sell tickets'...and complained about how he sat waiting for UK to call him years earlier...when they ended up hiring Billy Gillespie. How Memphis wasn't at 'the big kid's table' etc etc etc.

Maybe you can forgive all of that.
Maybe you can also forgive that he was rumored to be cheating on his wife at the apts on Mud Island.
If so, I'll admit, you are a more compassionate individual than I...more forgiving etc etc.
Because for me...that is way too frigging much to forgive.
So, you would be not in favor of his returning?

You think? I know I personally wouldn't want to see him back.
That last question to E misfit was sarcasm.
You think?

I was responding to the crowd that says we should forgive and forget.
Time has passed, we should let it go and move on.
Forget that. I wouldn't hire the man to mow my lawn.
Petty?
I guess I am.

People forget how similar Penny and Cal are. Great recruiters. Great marketers for the program. The knock on both is their ability to influence the game from the sidelines.

Edit: I'm not looking to run Penny out. I don't typically want a coach with baggage. Pitino's skills simply out-weigh his baggage. He coaches at the highest level. And his is issues include having an affair and operating the same as ever other NCAA coach - using shoe company to lure players. Other coaches have survived that "indictment."

Pitino has said that Iona is his last coaching stop.
Wont go to another program..so that idea is out.

Was Pitino giving coach speak? Iona is located in Pitino's hometown, and he spoke candidly when he said it. I believe you're right - Iona is likely his last gig. Low pressure. All fun. So, IMO you're right.

I'm just having the convo. Enjoying the discussion. IMO, Pitino is the best to ever stand on a sideline. Best in-game coach I've ever watched (Booby Knight is close #2). Command of his team. Motivates them to get every drop out of them. Has the ear of officials. Uses everything in his arsenal to control flow of the game. I'm sure some clown will take issue with me having an opinion, but oh well. 04-cheers

Pitino is 70 years old. He likely won't be coaching for that much longer.

RE: Let's go after Cal
I'll admit, losing Cal to Kentucky after the 2009 season was a humbling experience. However, I doubt we'd have seen the football success over the past few years had he stuck around.

My hope is that we're about to see a repeat of what happened after the 2004/05 season. That was the year that Louisville, Cincinnati & USF left for the Big East. It think we lost what, one league game during the 2005-2009 seasons?

I do not want Calipari back, though. I don't think Calipari's formula of all freshmen works any more. You have to have a mix of talented players, and seasoned veterans to win in college BB these days. Plus, I'm encouraged with Penny bringing strong assistants onto his staff. That will pay off in the long run.

03-puke If he couldn't make it at Ky. why in the L would we want him back at Memphis? You would probably want him to hire the sweat hog as assistant coach.
The tigers would certainly be the talk of the town then.

Not worked out at Kentucky? He is 375-107 at Kentucky
- 1 Sweet 16
- 3 Elite 8
- 2 Final Four
- 1 Championship loss
- 1 National Championship

Sign me up for that kind of not being able to make it...
07-coffee307-coffee3 I just read that if Ky fires him then they will owe him $50 million dollars? I also read that Texas is showing interest in him. I also know that
he lost to Alabama by 26 points. You can have him, I don't want him, he is not good enough for the Tigers a second time around.

If they hire Cal back it will kill BB too. So there's that. Calipari has already tried to destroy our program once, serving a second stint as coach would give him the chance to complete the job.

Anyone who still actually believes this is brain dead.

Been called worse.

National Championship game year the summer prior myself, wife and another couple had just walked into Pearls Oyster House downtown. Cal was at the far end of the bar all by himself, our wives went to our table w the Hostess my friend who also knows Cal and I went to chat with him a bit and both wondered why on a Friday night during the summer was he at a bar downtown at around 8:30 pm or so...I said what in the world are you doing here...he said with a grin on his face " waiting for a friend to get home"...my friend who knew cal way better than me said it was his girlfriend who lives on Mud Island when we got back to our table.

True story.

guess I wasn't too far off then.
