There's a reasonable chance it only gets worse if the climate crisis leads to the mass migrations that are forecasted. In crisis times, these types of "leaders" flourish becuase they offer simple (but ineffective) solutions that generally don't work but since the common man understands it they'll vote for that guy.

Absolutely. People are attracted to loud, boisterous, and simplistic speeches. It's easier to align with tribalism and/or identity politics than it is to apply critical thinking. The average person is generally terrible at looking past hyperbole and superlatives to take a close look at actual ideas and facts.

But that's just it. All this talk about American exceptionalism and how America is the best country - apparently the idea is that the country is perfect and nothing should be fixed. So let's just ignore all the issues - as long as the military gets it's $750 billion dollars every year and rich people get to not pay taxes, we're fine. We can ignore the high murder rates - mostly from gun violence, homelessness, lack of medical care, racism, anti-vax people, all of which are worse than many countries.

Don't even pretend for a second that our BS predatory health care system that functions on how much health care and insurance providers can rip off consumers is more superior than Canada's. The entire US health care system functions off of common law where you are liable to pay whatever a health care provider bills you for if you get treatment performed prior to billing. Health care providers in the US will straight up deny you service and treatment if you demand to pay cash and for a price up front. It's absolutely infuriating.

It's wrong and it's unfortunately bipartisan that this nonsense happens.

You can get a 6 month visa to Switzerland easily but I'd bet you'd be back within 3 weeks
