Just Fire Walker Already
What a joke. Can't coach. Cost us one more chance in the game. Can't adjust to the other team's adjustments. No discipline. Nobody in the stands. Let's just start over.

Hate having to start over, but we may have little choice.

Starting over, as you say, would be a big breath of fresh air from the garbage dump we are in!

Last night I checked the score at half and felt good. Yikes turned on the radio stream and wow just wow. PTJR and others I agree time to rip the band aid. Seems like if we lose to a team named for a neighborhood HOA (just kidding) after having them down by 20 at home and blowing it whoever needs to make the decision to rip it off and rip it off now.
GO TROJANS!! Keep playing hard despite the head coach

You heard it from me a while back.....DW is a joke and a piss poor coach. We are now the laughing stock of D1. Now we see if those in charge have the stones to do something about it.

And no one on the hill cares about this program. And with incompetent coaches we will never be able to compete with them on any level. This is a dumpster fire and it is ole DW's fault.

This job was just a 401k for Walker. Well played...at the program's and our expense.

If we want to be accurate about this, there is one person at fault. The chancellor (I forgot his name) who forced Chasse Conque to hire Darrell. Chasse was strongly against hiring Darrell. So the chancellor, who was fired soon afterwards, is responsible both for Darrell's hiring and for causing a very good AD to leave.

Unfortunately, my dream of competing with the hogs is over. Believe it or not, I once thought we could compete with them. We were moving into a state of the art, 18,000 seat arena and were located in the capitol city. Why couldn't we be like other city programs like Cincinatti, Wichita State, Creighton, Memphis, Louisville, etc. which compete quite well with the flagship university in their respective states? I didn't see a good reason we couldn't, other than the fact that Little Rock sucks as a sports town. If the powers that be in Little Rock fully supported our program monetarily and the average resident supported us with butts in the seats like folks support their local school in Wichita, Omaha, Memphis, etc. it could have happened. It will never happen now with our move to a low major conference, which is really where we belong considering the business and fan support we get in Little Rock (the OVC lists our average attendance as 2600, we may have had one tenth of that last night). Recent changes like the Transfer Portal, free transfer without sitting out, and NIL (which were all beyond our control) further ensure that we will never "get too big for our britches" as folks at UA-F see it.

In some ways I am very sad about this. On the other hand I am looking at the positives. We still have a DI program (even if it is low DI) in Little Rock. We have a beautiful arena. I can get into and out of the arena with little hassle and no traffic. I can get unbelievable seats, right near the court, at a fraction of what I would have to pay at a "big time" program. We will be able to compete quite well in the OVC and will occasionally make the NCAA tournament unless there is a dramatic change in the current system. Coaches (at least in the past) and administrators really appreciate the fans and supporters and you don't have to be a big donor to get to know them (if that is something you want to do). Lastly, I still think our program is closer to the "old college" model than the big schools that are really nothing but professional franchises with coaches and star players making millions of dollars.

We have discussed this in the past. If he has time left on his contract, do we really have the money to buy him out? With the losses due to Covid and the cost incurred with the recent flooding at Stephens where will the money come from? I guess we could pass a hat around to the 250 or so that attend the games. Is there a donor who cares enough give us a big chunk of money to buy out a coach? I thought all the "big donors" were behind Darrell. Isn't that why we hired him?

Just curious, where would you expect to see signs DW was bringing in extra donations?

Good question. Was just told that the money he promised would come in didn’t materialize. Hope I was told wrong. Maybe someone else has more info.

Not a lot of mid majors wear Air Jordan unis. DW used his connection with the owner of that brand to get the unis. There is that. I don't know specifics but heard money has come from NE Arkansas. Mahajir did a lot of damage in NE Arkansas.

I seriously doubt the program has the money to buy out Walker given the state of the program and other considerations you point out. Probably the only way out of this is to just let his current contract run its course and not renew. This is of course is far from the best solution, but the lack of resources may dictate it. We just have to pray that there is a viable program left by the time we can unload him. We can probably hang on as long as we have Joe Foley to give our fans something decent to watch on the women’s side.

I think you are mistaken that “all of the big donors” we behind the hiring of Walker. There were two, and of those, only one’s family has ever done anything for the program. It’s hard to turn down a request from a guy whose family gave the money for your arena, but when it’s not in the best interest of the program, it has to be done. And the Waltons have never done anything for Little Rock’s athletic program. But as you point out, we had a naive bad Chancellor who was snowed by the names and got suckered. So this is what you get when you don’t let your Athletic Director do what he knows how to do, and let people who have no clue about hiring a basketball coach dictate actions. As far as I know, no one other than those two big names were behind the Walker hire, and nothing has been received by the program from them since they got their way.

And let’s just hope that our fans who have finally seen the light on the huge error it was to hire Walker, don’t backslide on the wisdom of getting rid of him every time the Little Rock men are fortunate enough to pull out a win.

DW has one year left on his contract unless it has been renewed. It was renewed after he won the sbc his second year. I assume insurance is paying for the new floor.

Picked up a vintage TAAC UALR basketball championship banner from eBay. It is nice to reminisce about the old days because we sure as heck can't sit back and enjoy ANY measure of success lately. If they keep Walker past the end of the season that proves they don't give a damn about the program and given the fact that men's basketball is the revenue generator for the rest of the sports, the entire athletic department is in jeopardy.
