Walker is a great example. Caught 5 passes last year as he was behind Abram. Becomes the started and woa, this guys an NFL caliber talent. So now that the top 3 are gone it's really hard to know what we have at the position.

I will say Trell Harris showed some potential when he was forced into action and I've always thought Floriea was under utilized. So who knows. Maybe we find out we have more talent at WR than we realize. It would help if there was any reporting on this team so we could know how guys are looking in practice.

"... any reporting on this team.." LOL That'll be the day!

My one was the same issue but with the RB group. Cooper was great, but we had the bodies to run several through a rotation to mix things up with different sizes and styles and give Cooper a breather.

Looked up UCLA's signing day tracker. No mention of Schlee or the 5 star QB signing yet. Interesting they had the 5 star guy under unsigned commits but not Schlee.

Not sure that a transfer has to sign an LOI or that it is a timing thing. Kids transfer all the time and don't have to wait until a certain day to make it official.

It's not necessary to sign a letter of intent, but if you don't the university isn't bound to provide financial aid for a year.

I don’t think the transfers are part of today’s events, I didn’t notice other schools reporting them either. Saw this in an article about another schools signings:

“which won’t announce their mid-year transfers until they sign their aid agreement after arriving on campus in January”

I was mistaken, from what I gather by looking around, only PROSPECTIVE student-athletes at a four-year institution sign letters of intent. It is for high school and JUCO players. So, I assume that when a transfer is recruited, he/she just enrolls at that school and is placed on scholarship? To not have to sit out a year, though, the athlete must enter the portal during the allowed periods of time.

Also, a new twist is kids committing out of the portal will have their scholarships guaranteed until they graduate/transfer, so the coaches really have to do their due diligence.

Transfer rules

Quote:NCAA rules now will require any school that considers athletics when awarding scholarships to transfer student-athletes to provide that scholarship for the rest of a student's five-year eligibility or until they complete the requirements for their bachelor's degree, unless the student transfers again or engages in professional athletics opportunities.

RE: 2023 Football Recruiting
The below is from the Canton Repository about Kent State's two recruits from or near Stark County. As I mentioned before, I saw both play. DeShields looks like he could be good, but who knows? Lennix is an all-around athlete and almost as fast as Dri Archer was in high school. Lewis had promised him he could play RB instead of CB, but who knows now that Lewis is gone?

Dru DeShields signing with Kent State
West Branch, 6-2, 185, quarterback
After former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis visited West Branch practice late in the season, he was sold on DeShields. DeShields originally was an Eastern Illinois commit before Kent State came into the picture in early November. The two-time All-Ohio quarterback decommitted to EIU on Nov. 28 and then chose the Golden Flashes two days later. DeShields will be part of the newly hired coach Kenni Burns' first recruiting class. He'll arrive after a record-breaking career, having set 12 different school records. DeShields accounted for 4,611 yards of total offense and 62 total TDs in 2022, as West Branch enjoyed a 9-1 regular season and won an EBC title before reaching the regional finals.

Freddie Lenix Jr. signing with Kent State
Massillon, 5-11, 185, running back / defensive back
Lenix Jr.'s senior year didn't go as planned as he only played two games and was sidelined for the rest of the year. Fortunately enough, Lenix was already bound to play for Kent State after he committed in August. Lenix Jr. made a name for himself in his junior year when he stepped in for an injured Willtrell Hartson and rushed for 779 yards and 11 TDs. Lenix plans on playing running back as a Golden Flash.

From an earlier article on him, nice to see this too:

"As he much as valued the relationship he had with the coaches he met, his education played a part in why he chose to be a future Golden Flash.

"To me, it's the academics," Lennix said. "I got a couple of friends that go there, and they told me that the academics here are amazing, and what I need help on, they are going to let me focus on that, making sure I'm good, (and) I know what I suppose to know.""

Lennix is a heck of an athlete and has tremendous speed. I'd be anxious to see if he plays offense or defense. He has a brother two years younger that looks good, too. His father was a star linebacker who ended up at Notre Dame.

Our Lennix must be the son of the Freddie Lenix who signed with OSU in 2002 but didn't have the grades and enrolled at the Bearcats. He was from Glenville.

I'm hoping KSU's new coach recruits NEO harder than seemingly every coach in the last 40 years. Still can't believe Lewis didn't offer TC Caffey from nearby Hubbard who walked on at OSU and flashed a couple times before getting injured. And it doesn't sound like he offered Mr. Ohio from Hoban.

Right, and then from Cincinnati to Notre Dame (not THE Notre Dame). Actually, a few coaches recruited northeast Ohio pretty hard, with mixed results. Dean Pees, for one, had a pipeline with then Canton McKinley coach Thom Mc Daniels and there were several players from McKinley's state championship teams of the late 1990s on his team. Bur recruiting of northeast Ohio has been an on again off again thing for years.

RE: 2023 Football Recruiting
There were bonus clauses for Paul Haynes to recruit in-state ($10,000 if more than 60% roster is from Ohio). I’d like to see us hit the area hard, but also like seeing us draw from the Pittsburgh area where we’ve found some good talent over the years.
