Maybe he's retiring? He has plenty of time in the state system.

I missed that Western Michigan hired Louisville's Lance Taylor as HC.

Any word on who Satt is looking to hand the offense over to?

Dwayne Ledford was his OC at Appalachian State, is now with the Falcons. He's also an OL coach though...my guess is he would need someone who has experience with TEs given the last remaining positional opening.

Couldn’t blame him. Luckily, I’ve never had to travel for business, but I’ve been told that what’s fun and adventurous in your 30s just wears you down in your 50s. I can see why he wouldn’t want to be in a different city every day trying to scare up some recruits.

That non-answer from Coombs is kind of worrisome. If they don't retain him, it is imperative they get a Cincinnati guy with connections. I heard Chad and a few people mention Tom Bolden. Wasn't Steve Specht mentioned as a candidate for Luke's staff some time back?

Agreed. Certainly hope Coombs stays for at least one year so he can help transition the new coaches and help find his replacement.

If he stays I believe this would be rhe 4th coaching change where he stays for the new hire. Has to be some kind of record.

If Coombs doesn’t stay or retires, then I’d go Bolden all day over Specht for some sort of role.

Bolden was the OC at my High School, when I was there. Impressive guy. I'd be all for it.

I think UC will be fine. It would help if Coach Coombs were here for the transition but it's not like recruiting went into the toilet when Coombs left for tO$U; the Titans, etc.

I think Bolden would do great, I would argue he did a better job at Colerain than KC.

Former Bearcat Mike Daniels is currently a part of the staff at Akron and was previously at Army.

There were rumors Specht was offered a position as DB coach with the Bearcats some years ago. At the time he was coaching his son at St X. Greg Scruggs from St X did a great job at UC and was a successful recruiter. But he's a DL Coach for the Jets now.

UC has had other recruiters not directly on the staff e.g. Troy Everhart from Winton Woods.

So whether he stays or leaves I believe the program can find a darn good FB recruiter/coach with Cincinnati/Ohio ties.

Just some trivia, one of Urban Meyers 1st jobs as a coach was the DBs at St X where Specht was a player at the time (Safety).

I'm not against a Bolden type; Brian Kelly hiring Coombs obviously worked out great. But you can't hire a HS coach as your key local recruiter. Obviously keeping Coombs to develop one of those types making that transition would be ideal. If Coombs leaves they have to find a couple experienced OH regional recruiters.

I would argue the Bolden IS an experienced recruiter. He had incredible athlete's that contributed to his success at Colerain. I find it highly unlikely all those kids grew up in the Colerain area. They've fallen off the map since he's left. Look at Lakota West. They were a so-so middling program in the GMC. Enter Bolden, now they have a steady stream of D1 college level players rolling thru year after year and they are arguably the top public school program in the area. I find it hard to believe it's just because of his "coaching". He somehow gets dudes to come play for him.

I'm not well versed in the local HS scene but I guess I am just working under the assumption that recruiting HS talent and recruiting to a college program that aspires to be a top 25 national program is different even if it leveraging the same local relationships.

It's OK to ask, but I'd consider it very doubtful. He's got a pretty sweet gig with the Bengals and they seem to love him. Even ignoring their current success, my impression is the Bengals are pretty loyal, especially to a local hero-ish guy. If he keeps up the work and stays out of trouble (both of which seem highly likely), he can probably stay with them until he wants to retire (quite possibly with one or more SB rings.)

Former Moeller football coach Doug Rosfeld is 'unbelievable' at helping the Bengals
