The Flashes are on the road against the Bulldogs tonight. Tip off from Spokane is set for 9pm. It’s a bit too early in the morning for a deep dive into the analytics, but this game deserved a thread two days ago.

Go Flashes!

RE: Kent State @ Gonzaga
Wouldn’t a win tonight be just what we need?
No problem!

From the Zags pregame notes:
Quote:A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Extend the nation's longest home win streak, and longest in program history, to 69 games.
- Extend the second-longest streak in the AP Poll era for ranked against unranked opponents to 74 games.
- Be the 84th straight victory over an unranked team.

Sure, but none of those wins were over the Flashes. And if Toledo can beat them, we certainly can!
(Toledo beat them once in 1964.)

Looks like streaming is available on the Stadium app.

There was a time I thought Kent State could be like Gonzaga, St. Mary's or Butler. Obviously, I was naive. Of course, they are better than Butler this year. I was looking at the mid-major poll. Gonzaga is #1. Pretty silly IMO to refer to them as "mid-major". I'm sure it's a "technicality" because their conference, the West Coast Conference" is not considered "major", even with "name" teams like Gonzaga, St. Mary's, BYU and San Francisco.

I know what you mean, muskrat. I was right there with you. So many factors worked against that scenario unfolding.

But it is nice to stop and think about what KSU has been able to maintain over the course of nearly two decades.

A game like tonight, a game that feels (whether real or imagined) like one that Kent State can get speaks volumes about the program. Here's to Gary Waters, Stan Heath, Jim Christian, Geno Ford and Rob Senderoff!

BEAT Gonzaga!

I agree. To have this, no doubt, being the 25th consecutive season without a losing record is incredible to us older alumni who witnessed so many awful seasons. I have to give kudos to Jim McDonald, too. Granted there was a four-season gap between him and Waters, but he made Kent State basketball relevant and took them to three MAC championship games where they, as underdogs, lost the three by a total of five points.

RE: Kent State @ Gonzaga
Gonzaga has always disappointed me. They, and a host of other programs used to be with us when Bracketology, Bubble Watch, Bracket Busters were being tossed around 20 years ago. I remember in 2001 or 2002 one of the Bracketology analysts was comparing Kent State with Gonzaga with scenarios and matchups. Since then their program is a huge contender while Kent has not.
Where did this go wrong?

Gonzaga has poured tons of money into their basketball programs, are a private school, and don’t have college football at any level. They made basketball a priority in a way that mid-major public universities with FBS football simply cannot. It’s really that simple.

Now, they have done it exceptionally well and some of their peers have not done it as well, but there are huge advantages to being private non-football schools.

Gonzaga might be the last team to pull it off. In the era of the portal it will be real tough to do. They established themselves as a basketball major just in time.

They retired Olynyk's number tonight? Now I really want to win and spoil that DBags big night.

Two bad offensive foul calls in a row. Huge swing.

I guess Timme is already getting the NBA travel allowance.

Terrible call on Jacobs 3rd too. Obvious blocking foul.

Every single MFing block charge has gone their way. Can't pull off the upset when 50/50 calls are 0/100.

Big players need to step up in big games, we need Carry to start making some buckets. He was probably the difference at Houston, can’t have it happen again.

He needs to get whistles when he gets hammered at the rim as well. Stars get calls too. Just ask Timme.

Timme has zero fouls and I find that hard to believe.

I don’t. And I think we’re saying the same thing.
