Yes. Our poster under the "Halloween Hollers" thread had the story of apparently ineligible players.

Only 7 players got meaningful minutes in an X-HIBITION game. That speaks volumes for those who can think outside the box. What's the story on the other half dozen???

EMU Sports Info is very conservative about reporting player/personnel issues. We have no local media to speak of. We are dependent on locals, e.g., alums, students, etc. to have their ear to the ground.

As I suggested before, when Doc Fennel was with us I'd get inside info. One retired facility member was close to Heather and info would pass, yeah 3rd hand, to me through a private grapevine with Bill. "Don't know if you heard..."

Now... this forum, Tony Paul, etc.

One came out late so there were nine. We have two with injuries. I haven't been told about the others. :coffee3: This team is much like Suzy's first two years very short on players. :coffee3:

RE: Women's basketball
This team is going to be tough to watch all season long.

Northwood is just an OK D2 team. They jump from the GLIAC to the GMAC so I suspect perhaps a few more wins, though they have teams like Ashland and Findlay back in their lives so maybe it'll stay about the same.

Castro is in a lame-duck year. He's 40 games under .500 in MAC play, has never finished above .500 in conference play, and consistently has to re-build his teams because student-athletes transfer.

Tony Paul only writes about EMU when it's scandalous, and of course now that we have Emoni on the MBB team.

I point that out to say: unless it is something that will make national news he won't report a thing on our WBB team.

Nah, Tony Paul gives decent coverage, albeit not weekly.

He covered our game against GVSU, has covered our bowl trips before, been interviewed by our FB opponents' radio shows and speaks highly of us during those interviews, etc. He did cover the Emoni situations but it comes with the territory.

David Jesse only covers the scandals....

In my mind covering a team requires: a reporter is on-site or part of any weekly pressers (Paul does not come to football regularly and I don't think we do anything like that for MBB), and is on-site for games. Tony Paul has not done that for EMU. I've been coming to EMU MBB games regularly since 2012 and he's never been at a game I've been at. I'm hopeful that him being at the GVSU exhibition is indicative of things to come.

EMU's lack of local media coverage is not an Eastern-specific problem. (And it's certainly not Tony Paul's fault either). Plenty of schools in the MAC struggle to get consistent coverage. For every Toledo/BG/Buffalo/OU that has consistent coverage, there is EMU/NIU/Akron/Kent that doesn't.

Back to this specific thread though: for him to write anything outside of a preview on our WBB team it will have to be a scandal / coach firing.

on a bigger scale, HOPEFULLY the MBB season warrants more coverage from the Detroit News and others. As Stan builds his team with kids from SE Michigan (and hopefully starts racking up wins), hopefully ALL of the local publications will give us some more coverage.

I agree with you. Tony Paul does a very good job. I follow him on Twitter, a good source along with Vanneze.

I think Tony Paul does a passable job.

He RTd a Toledo Blade reporter and our halftime score on Saturday. The biggest game of the year for us. I don't find that to be very good. and the big boys didn't start down the road until 7:30.

Vanneze's social media coverage is the best we've got, by far.

Ineligible players.

Do the ineligible players include those who got in a fight last week?

Hard for me to enjoy the surprise W-L record after that nonsense.

I don't follow women's basketball but a quick peak at the schedule: they haven't played anyone.
