I assure you Houston is going to show the flashes how defense is played on every level including their 3rd string unit. Houston will exploit Kent State and wear them down.

Still waiting for #2 to show KSU how defense is played.

Hou has played their worst offensive game all year.

Kent State had everything to make this a blow out. But Houston has shut down the Flashes offense with 0 points in 8+ minutes straight.

Flashes look good but not scoring might be costly.

Lots of teams tend to look worse on offense against us. Guessing the same is true of you guys.

Hou had many open looks that were missed

Regardless, Flashes defense is good.

What a shame. Kent gets anything… ANYTHING at all from Carry and it wins comfortably.

Guy had the worst game of his life, shooting wise. Still found a way to help the team with 8 steals. Without him I guarantee we aren't even in the game. Hell, Gio who is a career 40% 3 point shooter over 4 years didn't score at all. In the first half, Thomas was chucking like he has the ultimate green light.

Truth is, Kent State didn't play all that well and had a chance to beat the #1 team in the nation (come Monday). As disappointing as it is, you have to believe if we play that hard every night, the season is going to be pretty special.

'We came in here trying to win, so we are disappointed we didn't finish the job,'' Senderoff said. ''We went toe to toe, blow for blow for 40 minutes, and they made one more play at the end of the day.”

''Our guys' competitiveness on the defensive end, that's what kept us in the game,'' Senderoff said. ''That's what our calling card is. That's part of why we wanted to play this game was because we knew what we were getting into. Just one play short.''

Post game quotes from Coach Sampson...

''That's the first time all year someone has punched us in the mouth,'' Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. ''We're used to punching other people in the mouth around here.''

''There was a really, really tough team on the floor today, but it just happened to be coach (Rob) Senderoff's team...''

Need to keep working on rebounding. Hopefully that will round out as the front court gains more experience.

Was proud of the effort.

UH grad/fan here. I was impressed with the Golden Flashes today. Tremendous effort. Good luck the rest of the way; you guys look like a tournament capable team.

On another note, once upon a time, many years ago (1972), I lived in Kent and was a 2nd Grader at the now closed Franklin Elementary. My teacher was Mrs. Hurd. Yes I am an old timer LOL.

RE: Kent State @ Houston
Had to watch the second half on replay. Just finished it. Livid about the no call on Carry's run out with 30 seconds to go down 1. That changed the entire dynamic of the final minute. Came shortly after a questionable charge called on him. Usually when you give a 50/50 call to one team in crunch time you give the benefit of the doubt to the other on the next questionable one... But hey, they next one wasn't questionable. He just got straight up smacked in the head. He didn't have it tonight, that's for sure. But Houston got away with an absurd amount of contact on him as well.

Also, shout out to the Houston fans you could hear chanting "F Kent St" during timeouts in the second half. No baseball fan needs reminded that sports fans in Houston are the second noisiest trash cans in Texas but they reminded us anyways.

We don't have anything to be ashamed of. But it's also hard to not feel we should be 7-0 right now.

One other thing I wanted to mention a few comments here from both sides about their team missing open shots and not giving credit to the defense for it. Many of those open shots, both ways were open, but not actually good looks. The defense got the ball handlers flustered the passes were low or high or made them move their feet so they weren't catching and shooting in rhthym. Basically today the game was a two way defensive clinic.

I'm glad they played well and I'm glad they are disappointed in the result. I feel like they need to be able to close out these sort of games and get the W, whether it be at Houston, at CoC or at home vs. Northern Illinois. This team could be a legit Top 50 team if the refs let them play D.

Agree, Bopol. I said as much earlier. They have to close out the games in a way that they actually win most of the tight ones. That's what the better Kent State teams over the last 25 seasons did. But like you, I'm glad they are playing really well.

If they closed out CoC and Houston they'd probably be a top 25 team this week.

Yes , they would. Agree no call on Carry at end was a
game changer. My issue is ref’s don’t seem to look
the other way on calls at our place at end of games . Just don’t see
us getting the home court advantage others get.
I have been a season ticket holder 40 yrs and this is not a recent
Occurrence??

I have played the no call on Carry many times and I still wonder how can an official see that and be so dishonest not to call it. Happens every day, I know.

Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled with their play, but slightly disappointed because if you can have leads with less than a minute to go, the games are very winnable. Agree about the officiating - I rarely saw Kent State get many "home team" calls at the MACCC over the decades.
