I only count 4 MAC teams bowl eligible at this time. It may be that the MAC will only have enough teams to be eligible for the spots they are committed to.

There will for sure be five teams, Ball State and Miami are both 5-6 and play each other next week. Buffalo only needs one more win and plays Akron and Kent State, so they'll probably get to six as well.

RE: 2022 MAC Bowl Picture
Well the Buffalo/Akron game is suspended indefinitely, who knows when/how they'll make that up. That brings us to the end of this week, and frankly it was about as good as we could of hoped for with our win, two teams being knocked out, and Ball State losing. At this point there can only be six MAC teams that qualify for a bowl, meaning we are guaranteed a spot.

Also, with Michigan State being upset by Indiana today they will now need to go down to Penn State next weekend and win to get to a bowl. I think if MSU loses you'll see a bigger push from the QL Bowl folks to bring in either Toledo, BG, or us.

Bowl eligible
Ohio (8-3)
Toledo (7-4)
Eastern Michigan (7-4)
Bowling Green (6-5)

Need one more wins
Buffalo
Ball State
Miami

Eliminated
Akron
Northern Illinois
Western Michigan
Kent State
Central Michigan

These games don't matter too much now, just in terms of trying to make ourselves look better:

Tuesday
BSU @ Miami: The winner of this one is bowling the loser is done. We'll go with Ball State because it would add a win over a bowl team to our resume

BG @ Ohio: I guess Ohio, that will mean we finish with a better record than Bowling Green no matter what.

Friday
CMU @ EMU:...duh

Toledo @ WMU: We want WMU here, it would mean we could potentially be co-MAC west champs (not that it matters) and have a better record than Toledo

Saturday
Kent State @ Buffalo: Kent State, it would put Buffalo one loss from being knocked out.

Akron @ NIU:....who cares?

An added note (and it kills me), I realized today that the way November has played out, had we made that stop on 4th and 10 against Toledo, the result of our game against Central wouldn't even matter....we'd have already clinched a spot in the MAC title game 03-banghead

I feel your pain SD. Let's beat CMU and that pain will subside to a degree.

RE: 2022 MAC Bowl Picture
There are 82 bowl spots this year and there are 75 bowl eligible teams. There are 16 teams with a 5-6 record, but some play each other (like Ball State and Miami-Ohio) so not all 16 will become eligible.

The MAC just tweeted out that the winner of tonight's Miami vs Ball State game will go to the Bahamas. So (thankfully) cross that off the list for us.

So, Miami heads to the Bahamas...not too sad to see us not head there. Also, they reschedule the Buffalo/Akron game for Friday, December 2nd (day before the MAC title game), Buffalo will have two cracks at becoming bowl eligible.

RE: 2022 MAC Bowl Picture
Last day of the regular season there are five bowl spots left and 13 teams that can become eligible with a win. One team, Buffalo, gets another shot next week since their Akron game got rescheduled if they were to lose today.

Being 8-4 and having the second best overall record in the MAC we don't have anything to worry about, but some 6-6 MAC teams might have to sweat it out depending on how today plays out.

I assume there is not actually much difference between a 7-5 and 8-4 team. But the aesthetics/look/feel of an 8-4 record is significantly better than that of 7-5. So glad EMU got there. Add to that a P5 win and I think EMU is regarded as a nice draw for whatever bowl lands them.

Yeah, you're probably right. I don't even know if there is a rule that a bowl has to take an 8-4 team over a 6-6 team, but I can't imagine an 8-4 team staying home over a 6-6 team.

Good move by Miami taking the Bahamas Bowl.

I'm thinking out loud: QL Bowl either TOL or EMU.

No CMU or WMU certainly improves our chances of QL. They know that we will put butts in the seats. A QL bid against a middling B10 team would be great. Sparty needs to beat PSU to be eligible but that would be a great match-up.

My only question will the MAC give preference to TOL as they haven't been recently.

RE: 2022 MAC Bowl Picture
our attendance at the Quick Lane bowl a couple years ago was exceptional vs. Pitt.

I really hope we get this invite as we would pack it again. It would be huge for the following reasons...
1. With CMU and WMU not bowling, this is an enormous advantage to get recruits at the game.

2. Large EMU crowd advantage

3. Way more opportunity for alumni to get to the game.

4. I think our athletic media relations team could get a 2nd swing at organizing alumni and fan events.

I'm not sure if the players want to go back to Detroit, but what are the other options? Potato, Lending, ??

RE: 2022 MAC Bowl Picture
Thanks to last week's snow storm the regular season, and bowl picture, isn't quite clear yet. With their lose to Kent State today Buffalo falls to 5-6, but they have their match up with Akron to get to 6-6. As I'm writing this there are currently 81 bowl eligible teams for 82 sports. Miami (FL) and Vanderbilt both have a chance to get to 6-6, however they are both losing badly, so Buffalo will probably have a chance to be the 82nd team. If they don't get that sixth win a 5-7 team will get to go to a bowl.

Bowl eligible
Ohio (9-3)
Eastern Michigan (8-4)
Toledo (7-5)
Bowling Green (6-6)
Miami (6-6)

Need one more wins
Buffalo

Eliminated
Akron
Northern Illinois
Western Michigan
Kent State
Central Michigan
Ball State

The MAC title game will be Saturday, but Friday afternoon we'll get one last regular season game:

Friday's game
Akron @ Buffalo: I'd like Akron to win this game, but I guess it's what you think is more valuable. If Akron wins that means only five MAC schools will be bowl eligible, I like being able to say the majority of the MAC did NOT make a bowl and we are NOT the majority. If Buffalo wins it does add a win against a bowl team to our resume.

Miami will play UAB in the Bahamas.

People in the athletic department seem to think they're going to Arizona. Not sure if that's just wishful thinking or they have assurances. If that's true I would guess Toledo or BG to QL.

I talked to a buddy of mine from Central on Saturday (that was fun!) and he told me that it was his understanding that Barstool/Arizona Bowl broadcast was actually available through the school's websites via Barstool as well as how they streamed through their app and website.

Look, I really don't care where I watch the game. If it is in Detroit I'll be watching in my man cave while my family Christmas party goes on upstairs. If it's in Arizona I'll be in my man cave as I neglect some other project I should probably be doing.

All I want for Christmas is a bowl win. Go Eagles.
