100% officiating kept Charleston in this game. I’m sure if you look at the stat sheet, zebras led in assists. Cost me money, but I loved the compete. I have a feeling this will sting enough to where the team will use it as motivation. Great year ahead…

Tough road game. But it seems to me as if KSU hung in there.

Get the Flash Brass going!!! We’ve got a GD TEAM this season.

RE: Kent State @ College of Charleston
Been meaning to say this for a couple games, but after seeing them in person a few times, I think we're all really going to like Gillespie. 6'8" seems like an accurate height but he's going to play taller than that because he has some really long arms. My very non scientific guessing, he looks like he's got the longest wingspan with the possible exception of Hornbeak. Also, while he's still young and raw he doesn't really look like a true freshman big in November to me. Moves well, doesn't look awkward or our of place, and seems to have good defensive instincts. He looks comfortable hedging and switching screens. How often have we seen young bigs foul on nearly every hedge? Also, he seems coachable. There was a moment in the Pine bluff game (no one was there you could hear everything) where Sendy yelled down at him during free throws to switch screens. The next two possessions he switched screens perfectly and played great individual defense to prevent the guard from penetrating once resulting in a bad shot as the shot clock was going off and the other a turnover. I know that doesn't sound all that exciting... But it's still November and he's a true freshman big in the MAC. I'm excited to see what he can turn into.

This is good. Gotta have a few bigs.

I like Thomas too. Not sure he’s a “big” but he is 6’7

I'm no statistician but the odds of getting that sort of foul shot differential seem astronomical.

They were lucky they kept getting bailed out on possessions that weren’t working and got sent to the line instead. Nice work if you can get it.

Per the contract, the refs for the game were assigned by the MAC.

Great game, I'll be pulling for y'all against Houston.

I just hope the MAC officials aren't going to allow aggressive defense this season.

I agree. Who wants to see effort on both ends of the floor and teams earning every point.

Nothing can ruin a basketball game more than a constant march to the free throw line. An official can see a foul on every possession if that is what he wants, just as holding can be seen on every play in football. I've always felt officials should blow their whistle when they have to, and not when they can.

Trust me, you don't have to tell us that our conference gets some dog s#it officials. MAC basketball's unofficial slogan should be "MAC basket. Where you always have a chance of seeing a call so inexplicable you've never seen it before."

It sure seems that the MAC gets the bottom of the barrel. I don't know if that is actually true, but it sure seems that way.

Several questions , Charleston fan:

1/. You had access to contract ???

2/ Several years ago I was told by our AD that
officials are assigned by a regional collective
not by conference. This was case years ago but
no longer. For example , MAC, Horizon, and Big 10 share
officials and are assigned by this group. I have often seen
same officials do a MAC game one day and Big Ten the next day.

3/. I seriously doubt MAC is going to expense of sending
3 officials to SC the night before Thanksgiving for a non-conf game .

Glad to admit I am wrong after you substantiate your claim

About 8 years ago I golfed with a college ref who did alot of mac and horizon games. Back then the pay was around 1,300-1500 per game. But you had to pay for all your travel costs. Now these tourneys or out of region games may be different and pay for travel.

The MAC is in the upper half of the 30+ conferences. I would hope they don’t get the bottom of the barrel. It just seems that way.

I don't have access to the contract, our AD tweeted out that statement after there was so much chatter about the officiating. I imagine the refs, or someone involved with y'all or the MAC would have been happy to correct him if that was untrue. You could look up the crew and see what games they normally officiate, maybe it was a crew that usually works the big south or the southern conference.

I know we get ted valentine for a lot of games because he lives in Charleston, usually when the ACC doesn't have something for him.
