I’m going to work on that today just for funsies. You all know I love depth charts.
Love it, thanks Bovine.
Next year should be a breakthrough year.
-I had no idea Sparacio wasn't graduating. That is ENORMOUS. He is so much better than anyone else playing LB.
-If Jose comes back, then wow. If he can go pro, then he should but man would he help us.
-Lassiter and Knue coming back help a ton.
-Evans and Jackson are a great duo
-Howie, Dmitri, Doolie, Johnson is a great core
-Cline at LB is a stud
-Getting Merrit and Haney back will shore up our Dline
-I've been huge on Swindle, Peyton and Carter Evans and think next year they make noise
-Gomez and Tomascek coming back shore up Specials
-Secondary is littered with guys with experience
The only question mark is at QB. I like Austin Smith and hope he is the guy but knowing CC he will bring in a transfer.
BOTTOM LINE....this is a SUPER loaded group. The most talent we have seen.
Hey guys, giving my best shot on next year’s depth chart. Please let me know what you think, or if you see any omissions or errors. Obviously a lot will change between now and next fall, but I thought this would be fun to look at.
Offense
QB - Austin Smith, Cam’ron McCoy, Brooks Blount
I’m sure we’ll add a transfer here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Blount passes McCoy once he knows the offense.
RB - Samson Evans, Jay Jackson, Darius Boone Jr., Bryson Moss, Elijah Jackson-Anderson
Lots of depth here, but we will probably see one or two of these guys leave. I love Moss’ game. Would like to see him play more. Jackson is a guy I could see moving to the slot.
WR - Tanner Knue, Isaac Smith
WR - Darrius Lassiter, JB Mitchell III
WR - Kaiden Keefe, Chris Gundy, Jay Jackson?
Lots of questions here with so much talent graduating. Many additions to come. But with Knue and Lassiter coming back, that’s a good start.
TE - Jere Getzinger, Andreas Paaske, Aaron Jackson, Max Reese
We will miss Oakes, but there’s a lot of potential here. I’m not sure if Jackson’s coming back — selfishly I hope so.
LT - Marcellus Johnson, Jez Janvier
LG - Alex Howie, Jimi McAdams IV
C - Dimitri Douglas, Broderick Roman
RG - Mickey Rewolinski, Carson Lee
RT - Brian Dooley, Zack Conti
I’ve seen people say that they are concerned about this group. However, we’re returning 3 starters, and the two “new” starters have extensive experience themselves. I’m excited about this group if we can improve the depth at a few spots.
Defense
DE - Joseph Zelinsky, Carter Evans, Maliek Bogard
NT - Alex Merritt, Melvin Swindle II
NT - Peyton Price, Dexter Manior, Tim Grant-Randle
DE - Mike Haney, Mikah Coleman, Jaden Gaines
Big loss with Ramirez, but enough depth and experience to be a strength. We’ll also get new JUCO talent here that could contribute right away.
LB - Joe Sparacio, Luke Cameron
LB - Chase Kline, Steven Scheidt, Justin Jefferson
I didn’t know that Sparacio was able to come back, but several of you have said as much. If so, this could be one of the best units in the MAC.
CB - Kempton Shine, Keylen Gunney
CB - Mark Lee Jr., Josh Scott
SS - TJ Peavy, Robert Daniel Jr.
FS - Cam Smith, David Carter Jr.
Rover - Quentavius Scandrett, Kendric Nowling
We’ve got pretty heavy losses here - Hernandez, Benson, Vaden, and Bogan. The corners still look very good, IMO. Peavy and Scandrett are solid safeties. I think FS is the team weakness as of now. Can someone talk me off the ledge?
K - Jesus Gomez
P - Mitch Tomasek
Elite specialists - please don’t leave!
Overall there’s a lot to like here. Some questions I have: How will Austin Smith develop as a passer? Will he be able to consistently and correctly get through two progressions? If so, he’ll be dangerous. If not, he’ll be a part-time guy. Also, how will our receiver depth grow? Knue and Lassiter are great core pieces, but we will need more. As I mentioned, I have worries about FS.
Awesome news is that this depth chart doesn’t even include any newcomers, and is still very good!
What do you all think?
