Bates is markedly better than he was in Memphis. IF we bring this level of intensity to our non-UM games, it will be a special year.

Let's shock the world tonight, and win! If we rebound, and stop Michigan from hitting open 3's we've a chance! We're very young, but talented! We've 1 5 star, and 3 4 stars that are starting tonight! Bates will show metro Detroit why he was considered the #1 high school player in the country starting tonight, and his sidekick Noah will bring it as well! Geeter, and Billingsley have to play great!

Best game since the 90s. Instant classic.

The ball needed to be in Noah’s hands at the end more than it was. But it’s hard to be mad at that performance. This is a good team, and will be a force in the MAC. Our front court will only get better as the season goes on. Both Billingsley and Geeter will look a lot better when they aren’t matched up with talents like Hunter Dickinson and Terence Williams.

Excited to see how this season plays out.

Michigan is a really good team and no one is going to stop Dickinson inside. Their glaring weakness is lack of three point shooting. Eastern was every bit as good. Ticky tack fouls hurt big time. Mid majors NEVER seem to get fair treatment by the officials against P5 teams. That was the difference. Eastern Michigan basketball is back on the map, this is freaking great.

This team is about to start getting me invested in basketball. I’ve never watched as much as I should, but this team looks like a ton of fun. Disappointed we couldn’t pull it off today, but they looked darn good. Excited for this year!

Great game but the foul trouble did us in. Our Eastern team will only get better. Really looking forward to the next game.

Very entertaining game. This team could be something special. If Geeter doesn't step across the line inbounding the ball, Eastern likely would have maintained control of momentum and who knows where it would have gone from there.

RE: How Does EMU Match Up Against UofM and Can We Win?
This game was decided by EMU letting Michigan take 40 foul shots, while EMU took 27 foul-shots. Even so, Michigan only converted five more free throws than EMU did. So many of EMU fouls were unnecessary. As EMU's defense inside was not good, and too many times EMU players committed fouls when Michigan players were taking bad shots that they had little chance of making. Other times, EMzu fouls resulted in three-point plays.

Too often, Dickinson went around EMU defender for easy hoops.

Lovejoy and Noah committed body touch fouls when there was no reason to do so.

Both teams had 11-turnovers.

Statistically, both EMU made the same number of two's, even with Dickinson scoring almost at will by the hoop. Both teams made but 5 three's.

Both Emoni and Noah had outstanding offensive performances scoring the ball as Emoni scored 30-points and Noah scored 19 points. Very pleased to see Emoni not take any very long three's. As a result, he shot 3-6 on three's.

EMU should have taken far more three's than the 15 they took. If they did so they would have likely won handily. Noah took only 2-three's and made one in the first half, and did not shoot a three in the second half. All he needed to do was dribble before three-point line and then do a step-back three-ball behind the line as he did in the first-half.

Don't know why Heath didn't have the ball passed into the low or high post and then kicked to the three-pointline. for a shot.

EMU did a good job in forcing Michigan to shoot less than 20 percent on three's. Bates defended the three point line effectively.

I said pre-game that a player should not keep jacking-up shots if he's off. For the second game in a row Acuff was a mess shooting. He shot 3-11 from the field, and was 0-5 on three's. His form is off. Wish Noah had shot some of his shots.

In hindsight, Rice and Pranger should have played Rice earned at the end of last season. Pranger would have helped defensive and he can shoot the three ball.

Geeter not being able to say on the floor was a killer.

RE: How Does EMU Match Up Against UofM and Can We Win?
fun game. EMU looks good. if they stay out of foul trouble they win, but UM is so big and also gets a lot of calls. when Toledo played them at their place 2 years ago they didn't get called for a single foul in the first half. bates will need to grow into his confidence. it was really impressive at times, but he deferred late. agree with Miggy that the ball should have been in Farrkhan's hands more in the second half. the role players mostly stepped up, but took too many shots down the stretch. if heath can mold this team and space the floor they will be tough. good show. MAC was well represented.

BTW, watching last night's game I can see why EMU tried so hard for Keytonae Johnson.

With two studs, Emoni and Noah, a 3rd would make EMU virtually unbeatable in the MAC.

Miggy, I agree about the game was decided at the FT line. However, a lot of those "fouls" were bs. Michigan got most of the calls and I will say this, despite all that, Eastern kept their poise. Emoni, set the tone and politely handed the ball to the ref a few times with a smile. Farrakhan got leveled by Dickinson twice--at least one could have been called a moving pick--could make a case for both. The young man could have gotten hurt. We got hacked going strong to the hoop, no call. The officiating was definitely pro Michigan and I NEVER ***** about officiating, I never want to be that guy--like Michigan fans. Even number of fouls and Eastern wins...comfortably. This team is legit!

The greatest thing EMU has ever done was having the foresight to hire Stan Heath. Not only is he a great coach, he is respected and admired by his players, he exudes winning and calmness and that translates to players wanting to come to EMU and be a part of something great. No Stan Heath there would be no Emoni Bates in this program. He is the perfect coach to keep this train rolling, he won't let the guys get too high after wins. This easily could be the next great MAC team, dear I say like his Kent State Elite 8 team. I don't want to get too far ahead but this is exciting. If we don't get 5k plus crowds at home games and if the Detroit media doesn't cover this team, they don't like or understand basketball.

Yep, the refs played a role in this. We've seen this many times before in games like this.

When Emoni got the technical Stan embraced him while discussing it with him. Lessons being taught. Great coaching moment.
