Basketball-- NIU v. UofI Springfield
So, we have a hospital-full of injuries in football and basketball (even though basketball just started yesterday). Do we have any kind of athletic conditioning program, or is there no money in the budget for that?

And Burno didn't seem to have a problem with the loss during the post-game.

So happy I drove to the Convo for this tonight.

Out of curiosity, what specifically did Burno say or do that made it seem like he didn't have a problem with the loss?

He said that the loss wasn't a concern to him because the team was down two starters.

When did he say this?

During the post game on the radio.

I was one of the 651 souls in attendance last night (though I did leave early). Did anyone get any concessions? Anything not available? I did not even bother trying to get anything because I felt it may be a wasted trip to the concessions counter.

From what I can tell, Niederhäuser is injured and Nutter, Amos and probably Plintauskas are out with covid.

I'm not sure there's a conditioning program available that would prevent that.

Is there an archive of it? Because he said nothing of the sort in the post game press conference on YouTube.

Forgive me for doubting you but its become common on this board to extrapolate grandiose meaning from benign comments or body language by anyone associated with our athletic programs. I'd also like to know the context of what else he was talking about. As far as I know, he could have said our primary goal was to get guys healthy and in practice to prepare for the Northwestern game. Without context, a retelling of a snippet of a comment is relatively meaningless.

Literally everything he said in the YouTube press conference indicated he was not pleased with the game prep and was bothered by the result. He acknowledged they had 3 days of game prep with 7 or 8 guys in practice, which is an actual issue. And he took the blame for not being better prepared for this team and putting too much on Coit to create his own shots and having to play 37 minutes. Him taking blame for something out of his control (the covid issues) is coach speak. He actually doesn't have any control over that and can only work with the guys he has to work with. Could he have done something different in practice? Sure. Something different can always be done and what they did clearly didn't work. He's also clearly not just saying "oh woe is me" and shrugging his shoulders about it. He's acknowledging the issue (which I'm sure was asked about because they only played 8 guys and had guys missing from the bench) but is also saying what he did to prepare the players wasn't good enough.

But whatever. I'm sure he doesn't care about winning now that he's getting paid so much and his children's children are set for life.

Big Red with the hammer of logic. Love it buddy.

Losing makes us do weird stuff, because it sucks. If we were winning, no one would care that he farted mid sentence in a press conference. But now him scratching his nose could be perceived as, he's disgusted with the stink of DeKalb and should be fired last week.

He farted mid-sentence?! OMG, fire the guy! Maybe he was disgusted with THAT stink.

Bought 2 hot dogs and a pop just before tipoff, served by two very friendly workers with Huskie shirts.

Concesssions were > basketball game.

We didn't do a separate WBB thread r.e. the Notre Dame game, so I'll post this here ... the post-game story is about the game, the pic is from the NIU-Loras game, the promo box note is about DePaul coming up, and the live stats link is to the Loras exhibition game last week. Could we at least get an official website content coordinator going? A proofreader? Anyone?

(Sorry ... old lament).

They already have an excellent proofreader on staff - the one who proofed the basketball tickets that that spelled the months Janaury and Febuary.

I've seen the mismatch photo thing before, for years. I think most of the time it's because no one was there to take a photo and they had to use something, so...it's an old photo.

Yeah I know, and ... bullhockey. I used a Canon hi-rez pocket camera as a backup for years and it produced front-page-quality pics as a point-and-shoot with autofocus. Uploading via patchcord to any computer took about a minute depending on # of pics. For a selection of 5, maybe 20 seconds. Can take pix any time and upload on the bus home. Only need 1 "scenic" shot. Get a player's parent attending game to do it. Stop looking dumb every time someone checks the website. Or ... rocket science? Details matter.

No offense to you, our unofficial roster guru, but NIU consistently looking like a high school outfit is irritating. This would never happen with the pros that used to run marketing/pr. Now it's run by some part-time clerk maybe?

Oh, I get how easy it is to take a nice pic. I just don't know if anyone was there to take one. There are some up of their shoot around session on social media, but I didn't notice any game pics and, that could be because the shoot around pic was taken by a coach or someone.

I dunno.

Seems like an easy fix in today's times.

The other stuff you mentioned though is inexcusable and lazy.

Iam so tired of going to games at the convo and seeing all those seats pushed in. You make a decent arena look like a crappy small time arena and small time school. Act like who you want to be and not who you currently are! It’s so bush league and just another embarrassing aspect to NIU home basketball games.

Never understood that, it takes nothing to pull the upper tier seats out for a basketball game. Looks like crap on TV, and in person it screams "we don't expect a good crowd".

I would assume it's an attempt to get fans to sit more closely packed together and not spread out. That way the place would look and feel more like there were fans there, instead of looking and feeling hollow and empty. Also saves labor cost in opening them -- cleaning up after whoever sits there, and closing them. I don't think you see it on tv. I don't have an issue with it. I would love it if the lower bowl were filled and they had to open it!

Or am I thinking of something different?

You do see it on TV, and people congragate to lower/central seats regardess.

Nevertheless, I do think this is the rationale. You see this in bigger stadiums with low attendance. The Coliseum in Oakland. BC Place in Vancouver. Lots of places.

It's impossible to completely hide on tv but you really only see it if you're looking for it.

And, like was mentioned, clean up is centralized to a smaller area. If you have a scattering of people all over, you have to at least check to see if there's anything to clean up everywhere as opposed to just the lower bowl.

Obviously, the best way to fix this is to have enough asses in seats to get the upper level open. The last time I saw it open was German's last game.
