I saw STF having a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect!

He has hair?

No hair, that is why it is perfect. He has a hard time managing the department, how could he manage his hair and keep it perfectly coiffed?

He said Frazier was sitting on a folding chair 25 minutes before the game sipping a beer, not talking to anyone, and that he didn't see him chat anyone up after that either? We have 250,000+ alumni, a number of whom own their own companies, or are C-level execs. How is he not inviting these people to games as his guest, or working the alumni who showed up on their own. I hate that this slacker is our AD, and probably will remain so as long as he toes the line for the current administration.

Was at the game. Witnessed Sean standing in a group of about 20 people having a drink and chatting people up before the game.

So he wasn't always abandoning his general duties at the game? Not much of an endorsement. He's an innefective AD, needs to go, about 2 years ago.

The last game I went to, STF walked into the HAF tent and didn't say anything. He usually talks to a staff member or someone he knows (who probably donated a ton of money). He also always gives a rah rah, used-car-salesman speech, but he did not do any speaking this time - which I was extremely thankful for, or else my group would have had to get up and walk out (which we have done before).

Maybe he realizes people don't want to hear him speak anymore?

Or maybe he doesn't want to get into conversations with fans because he knows what the conversations will be about.

RE: FIRE SEAN T. FRAZIER
I thought the quotes in this recent ESPN article were timely.

In January 2019, Northern Illinois athletic director Sean Frazier oversaw an accelerated search when coach Rod Carey left for Temple. A week later, Frazier hired NFL assistant Thomas Hammock, who last season guided NIU to a MAC title.

Frazier is happy with the outcome but understands why ADs make changes early.

“They know if they rush this thing, if they mess it up, they're going to be out of a job. If this hire was going to define your AD-ship, wouldn't you like to have a little bit more time?"

The Temple hiring, spurred by the abrupt departure of Manny Diaz for Miami, caused by Mark Richt's retirement, also opened up by Geoff Collins leaving Temple for GT caused a hasty hire before recruitment and off season training. Not the best of circumstances, but we needed to get the dotted line signed sooner than later.

Men's basketball just lost to a DII team, and ladies basketball got destroyed by Notre Dame. Many other schools with limited cash (like NIU) would be seriously discussing canning their AD at this juncture, Sean Frazier is running our atheltics program into the ground.

From your numerous posts we know you despise Sean Frazier. So let us suppose your wish comes true and Sean is shown the door. Now what? What is the plan? What would your five point plan, ten point plan, whatever plan to get better coaches, better athletes, the stands packet to capacity in Huskie Stadium, the convo, Victor E court.
Keep in mind your budget, the location of the University and the many NCAA rules and regulations.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, that would take a while to formulate, but I can tell you it needs to start with a fresh excited face at AD.

This used car salesman needed to go a long time ago. In addition to many other faults, the two money programs have been driven into the ground. Now, when fans don’t show up for football or basketball games, he’ll blame the fans. It’s time that clown got in his golf cart and headed out of town.

It’s not our job to do this. That’s the job of a competent AD. Unfortunately, we don’t have one.

Do not take this wrong, because I personally do not need this, but I do find it curious that with all my years tailgating at every home game, STF or anyone from athletics have not stopped by to to say Hi and network a little bit. To me, this would be the fun part of the job. I do believe this is how you can create a personal connection for fans and get more loyalty. Perhaps the game day is crazy busy and no time for this, but making your core fans feel special is business 101 & it does not cost $ which we know we are short of.

Look at how the politicians are connecting with the people. Go out to the people, introduce yourself, shake their hands, talk to and interact with them. If a politician ignores the people, the people will ignore them.

for years...no. for decades I and others have been preaching to take care of the students. Make the game experience a must-do activity. Coordinate with the dorms, the greeks, student activities, the community, recent grads. but there has been little to no such sustained effort. And, the result is declining attendance. It's not just at NIU. But we have to try harder. STF always treated ticket sales as if he were at Wisconsin or somewhere where he had to ration tickets and could scheme some way to get more money from the average fan for tickets. He put the pursuit of more money in the short term ahead of building a long-term fan base. And he has failed at both. "Casual fans" are NOT a bad things. "Casual fans" are die hard fans that don't know it yet.

Shrug.

Nah ... he'll find another job.

Seriously, I'm not on board with firing anybody below top management, and top management only if they don't finally wake up. I think everybody is in prevent/bean-counter mode, and has been for a number of years. Monetizing has become the watchword, and it rules all thinking. Some promos/efforts hint of desperation.

If there is any "breakout" of this attitude, it will come on the field, courts, mats, pitch, wherever. To expect it to come from an office is ludicrous. We need somebody to win something.

So no matter what, support the teams. Even if it's critical, always find a point up to add. Simplistic, but there it is, imo.
