And Shawnty got a promotion?
No programs?? OMG, that's the first thing I buy when I get to the games. Now they don't sell them anymore? This is so embarrassing. I'm sure may of the visiting fans would like to buy a program to find out more about the Huskies and NIU.
Well the last couple of years they didn't really have a "program" It was a "yearbook" which talked about NIU but it was produced at the beginning of the year and wasn't specific to a particular game, so didn't change from one game to the next, as far as I could see. I didn't see anything at all for sale either of the 2 home games this year.
We're going backwards. Next, we'll be playing our football games on a soccer field.
Yes, they used to have a "yearbook" that was sold at every game. But, they also had scorecards specific to each game. I think the yearbook was $5 and the scorecard was $2. I bought the yearbook once and then a scorecard for each game. The scorecard had the rosters.
I believe 2009 was the last year of the media guide. I know there’s a PDF online but the printed copy was always nice to have.
+1. I used to order one every year……no more.

Like a lot of other people, I bee-otched over the water/concessions fiasco at the Wyoming game, even tossing in a "how-come" about not hooking up with the Lions big local car show fund-raiser the same day.
But going back, looking ahead, scoping the overall landscape, I have shifted into ok-now-I'm-kinda-worried mode.
In a continuing financial crisis, marketing/promotions/advertising are the first to go. You see cuts of non-essential programs (band ... since restored ... and cheerleaders, Silverettes shifted to self-funded club status). You see consolidation (e.g., recreation now under athletics). Lots of people get bigger titles than actual salary/benefit increases (lot of assistant ad's in there now). Big facility plans get whittled down (see from 2014-15) to just administrative, program and operations "improvements" (diversity, student-athlete mental health) and socio/politics (STF appt to national FBS diversity council).
As it worsens, the basics start slipping (Wyoming game). A really bad sign. Ignoring the car show = nobody is even looking around for opportunities. They're locked in survival/self-preservation mode. To come out of that, some resources are tapped. If not, it's because there's nothing to tap.
Like it or not, without some kind of big infusion, or incredible glorified success, this is where NIU is at for at least a while. Reality can bite.
When you talk about incredible glorified success, I feel like NIU was on cloud nine when it played FSU, and for some reason, the athletic department has been on a decline ever since with Frazier. Its almost like the program is circling the drain in several areas, especially Huskie stadium and the fan experience. Frazier did have some big ideas early but some of them never happened. Maybe he should concentrate on blocking and tackling and start to rebuild little by little.
This is a great post. I personally do not have a problem with Frazier like many of this board, so it is hard to ignore. The need for recognition from donors of all sizes is real. Like any business, you have to have the "every dollar is valuable" approach and make all customers feel appreciated. I am not high maintenance, but probably should expect more from Frazier and athletics for the dedication, dollars and fandom that I bring to the table. Clearly, as a group on this board like DogFan are feeling ignored and it is frustrating & disappointing. Long way of saying I agree that Frazier thinks big which I like, but not at the expense of doing the basics. Have to keep the loyal base and build from there- the simple stuff takes discipline and caring, but pays off in the long run

So what the hell does Donna Turner and her staff do with all their free time? Once upon a time people used to ***** because Korcek and his staff would be late with a media guide, but they kept getting bigger and better. The game programs for football plus men's and women's basketball were bargains compared to anything done recently. Hell that folded over cardboard for hoops games is simply an upgraded version of what Korcek and his staff did for all sports. You could go to a volleyball/soccer match, gymnastics/wrestling meet, baseball/softball game, and you'd get a roster for both teams at no cost plus the schedule on back and maybe some other info on the inside.

I don't think they have any idea what they're doing nowadays. I used to buy a football program for pretty much every game I went to.

I always bought a game program for every football and basketball game I have attended since the beginning of time. And I do mean every one. It’s the first thing I buy as soon as I get to the game. The yearbook and scorecard program did not bother me at all. But to have nothing at all at the games is another disgusting and embarrassing situation. No food, no water, no programs, no game atmosphere, next to no NIU gear - we are considerably worse than high school games. I am getting extremely disgusted to the point where my support for this program will see an end. This Athletics administration can stick their requests for my donations you know where.

Yep, very high school-ish. Too bad they didn't bring THAT up during the interview about the Wyoming game fiasco.

Frazier remarked in my donor "thank you" video that was "made just for me" that he has been on the job at NIU for 10 years. He has us mired in sub-mediocrity, and his covid get-out-of-jail-free card expired long ago. Please dear lord have someone at NIU come to their senses and politely escort him out of his position. NIU deserves better than a fast talking do-nothing hack.

Less upkeep on an empty stadium. And you don't have to buy as many hotdogs or hire as many attendants.
Also, watched some Huskies in the early 00s. College football, specifically at NIU and in the MAC was soooo different back then. It was sort of like this in 2006-2011 when I was there. But not nearly as packed or rowdy. I envy y'all old timers.

STF isn’t nearly as visible as he used to be. Doesn’t do the gripe and grin at the 20 yard line with faculty Spotlight anymore and where is the Huskie Legend of the Game?

Total windbag. A B.S. salesman with a mouthful of samples!! Should be fired ASAP. Sadly, Freeman and him look like they have lifetime jobs. Such is the way of the political reality of higher education today. Sickening.....

Hey! They sent me your video, too......and they said it was "made just for me" too! WTF!! I'm sorry I viewed your video because I thought it was for me. However, when I saw STF's puss, I knew it was meant for you, so I turned it off because I was getting nauseated anyway.
I would recommend that you contact Athletics to inform them that they sent your video to me. I'm sure it was a mistake.

RE: FIRE SEAN T. FRAZIER
Just talked to my buddy who was at the game last night. He said Frazier was sitting on a folding chair 25 minutes before the game sipping a beer, not talking to anyone, and that he didn't see him chat anyone up after that either? We have 250,000+ alumni, a number of whom own their own companies, or are C-level execs. How is he not inviting these people to games as his guest, or working the alumni who showed up on their own. I hate that this slacker is our AD, and probably will remain so as long as he toes the line for the current administration.

Frazier major responsibilities as an AD are to hire a winning football coach, hire a winning men's basketball coach and be a major fundraiser. He has failed on all fronts. How does he still have a job?

He still has a job because universities don't like to let people go. Many fear legal action. So mediocre performance is accepted as long as STF behaves himself and stays under the radar. He can mess up the game day experience, foster the teams' swirling down the drain, ignore donors, make promises that are not kept......all are fine as long as he stays under the radar. Our only hope would be if he is lured away by another university. Hopefully that will happen, and they won't look at his true resume.

I heard the beer he was sipping was Wisconsin Club. It is so flavorful, you want to savor every bit. It is almost as good as Schaefer Beer.
