Thank god this season is over. Don’t think I’ve been at a more lame huskie stadium until today. Sad sad sad. Said it in another thread, hammock needs to take on some risky transfers this off-season. Only way the entire team all around gets better fast.
The one positive I thought was seeing Thornton out there. Can tell he has talent and if healthy he would be a top WR in the MAC. Too bad we won’t have him back now next season

I think someone just said (which was news to me) that Cremascoli is a walk-on. Considering Lynch was on scholarship, played at Temple last year, and is a legacy player...I think it's pretty obvious why he was ahead of Cremascoli.
I'm also not convinced Lynch doesn't have a bum arm. He threw the ball enough at Temple last year and almost not at all this year. Granted, when he did throw it, it looked like he shouldn't be throwing it.
Nevertheless, I would say Cremascoli is the 2nd best passer on the roster right now, behind only a healthy Lombardi. That's based on nothing more than watching tonights game but he's clearly better than Lynch and, imo, he's also better than Hampton.
If we’re at the point that we are playing a walk-on qb with three games to go, the program is in a truly sad state.
That’s really the big point. If there was no transfer portal we are looking at 4 disasterous seasons in a row.
But Hammock is AMAZING at recruiting! (Sarcasm)

I think it’s totally insane hammock has been here as long as he has and hasn’t recruited a QB of any note. Literally…in my eyes the best qb he has recruited has been a walk on. I think the kid tonight has some tools - he’s been on campus a few months but I like what I see out of him. He can start the rest of the year and keep his RS.
…that said you would think hammock would have done better.

Imagine Hammock’s record without Lombardi. MAYBE he’d be 12-26. Looking at the talent id say he has built a 5-7 type squad that needs a special QB to elevate those 5 wins to 7 or 8. If Hampton is the guy next year I’m guessing that 6 wins is the likely outcome .

Seems like the answer to the qb problem is the portal. Even if they only play a year or two, so what? Get grad transfers, P5 guys who couldn’t get time, outstanding FCS guys. The list goes on. It’s just a different kind of recruiting than we typically think of with home grown guys.

I guess they finally decided the Lynch offense of never throwing wasn't working anymore.
Which is fine. But they needed 4 games to figure this sh!t out? Creamsicle could be in his 4th start by now
Or, he was so far down the depth chart it took them a little while to get him ready to play. He was probably pretty deep on the practice squad roster.
It’s less about him and more about evaluating Lynch. Obviously they didn’t plan on needing their 3rd stringer to start and Lynch was only #3 to be used in conjunction with Rocky or Ethan as a change of pace. But if this kid was their best passing option behind Hampton he should have been getting reps once Ethan went down. The run-only Lynch scheme was the some of the worst coaching you’ll see at this level.
Seemed like for a minute there, they thought they could salvage something out of Lombardi but that became apparent a week or so ago that wasn't going to be viable.
Personally, I liked what I saw from Cremascoli better than what I saw from Hampton. Sometimes you don't get to really see how a kid performs until they actually perform. Hampton might do pretty well in practice and its possible he was more versed in the playbook or picked it up faster for whatever reason.
I just liked Cremascoli's decision making tonight. He's got a sh!t line in front of him which made him think on his feet. Hampton made bad decisions imo when pressured where Cremascoli seemed to have an escape plan most of the time.
I'm thinking (hoping) his accuracy will get better with experience. Those overthrows are often due to adrenaline and, i'd say, that is excusable for a kid in a desperate moment late in his 1st game.
The pick at the end wa issn't good. Same for the almost pick on the pass to Tucker in the previous series. I don't think he saw the defender on that one. On the last one, I think he was running out of receivers and just tried to force it in.
Tucker pass he didn't see the guy. But if he threw a drop ball with some air under it to the left it would have scored. Needs a little more air on the fades, but that comes experience. He handled himself well tonight, all things considered.

I agree with Big Red, numbersdont lie and a bunch of others that Neven Cremascoli should be the starting qb for the rest of the season. This kid has a good arm, pocket presence, and is ready and able to move. He steps in and out of the pocket as needed, and when he steps out he has a place to go and things to do. He does not have the playbook in his head or the game experience, and makes some novice mistakes. Also, he has not worked with the other guys long enough.
But regardless of who NIU has next season, this guy is a definite keeper. I don't know who waved him on the team or how. But after watching qbs for more than five decades (and praying for most; this IS Northern), my brain has a tweak in it that says this guy *may be* one of those diamonds-in-the-rough that tripped in over the walk-on threshhold. I could see him MAYBE as Lombardi's understudy next year if Lombardi is here.
I don't know about Fletcher because when have we seen him in a game? I can't recall. Or Lomax. But watching Cremascoli, for a few moments there I almost saw shades of that #2 guy Kentucky started instead of their #1. NOT the same caliber of player -- shades meaning potential -- but a similar scenario of having a #2 who can step in as needed and not much is lost. Northern has not had that kind of situation since ... .
Then again, since Hammock knows this season is just being played out, he might try to give each of the younger guys a game to see what they can do. I'd rather see Cremascoli as the starter and maybe Fletcher as his sub to see some there. No redshirts burned in any case.
Anyway, gotta have some positive thoughts even if some of them are a little off the wall.

To those of you who padded our hopes and dreams with daily reports out of practice as to how great this team looks, please don't do it again. Please save us from the reports of how fantastic we look in practice, because every team looks good in practice. There is very little good about the Huskies and, contrary to your reports, there is no depth on this team. This team is set up to be bottom dwellers for several years, so please don't pump out how great we are. We are the new old Eastern Michigan.

Did you sleep through the MAC Championship last year? Those weren't Kill, Doreen or Novaks players hauling the trophy back home last year. They were HAMMOCK's. His players, coaches and play callers.

What I think we are finding out was that championship was because of a couple transfers and a couple Carey recruits and two of hammocks recruits. The rest of the team only performed average and those were the Hammock recruits.

Hams brought in the transfers. THEY COUNT toward his recruiting classes. The Carry recruits wee fine but not the stars in last year's team.
