RE: Possible football candidates
To me, the only reason Deion Sanders would take either a g5 or a mid tier p5 is that it is being communicated to him that he needs FBS experience to in order to get the opportunity at one of those elite programs. We know he wanted the FSU job and it seems likely he would want it if Norvell doesn’t work out. I believe he is absolutely all about the mission at JSU but also believe he is a competitor who believes he can and wants to beat the best of the best. Both of those things can be true. Both things can also open doors for others.

Reality is that his coaching resume is limited vs what we would typically see at one of those big jobs. I do think whoever gives Deion Sanders that opportunity will be very glad they did.

We need to strike fast on some of these bigger name candidates.

You won't have the premier candidates like Rhule signing on with a school like ours while jobs like Wisconsin, Nebraska, Auburn are (or might be) open.

It's easy to say who won't come, when we have never even met the person and know what their goals are and since we can only hire 1 coach, we will end up seemingly right 99% of the time. There are 131 FBS schools out there and only 7 that are currently vacant. We have as good or better facilities than most G5's and some P5's. Until they say no... you never know.

He didn't even have the fire to adjust at TCU. I don't understand the love for Gary Patterson. He was awesome 5-10 years ago, but he flat out refused to adapt to the modern game (especially the modern B12) and was ultimately fired for it. Now they have a modern coach in and are in the top-10.

Dieon & Rhule are reportedly the top candidates at Auburn, and Nebraska also has Rhule as their top guy. Both of those schools are likely about to join the $8M+ coach club, so I see 0% chance he slips through to UAB.

Some wild cards I'd been thinking of lately:
Sean Lewis - Kent State HC - they run a prolific offense that's been hindered by the facilities. Maybe not a perfect fit regionally but he'd do a great job here
Jim Svoboda - Tulane OC - he's the one I've seen get all of the credit for Tulane's turnaround. He was a coach in D2 at Central Missouri with an overall record of 86-43.

Otherwise my top candidates are Brian Bohanon and Neal Brown

I sent this text to WJOX this morning, but since the Harsin firing is breaking news I doubt they’ll talk about it today, but the did text me back:

Quote:After the brutal loss this weekend and zero road wins, who are your Top Five coaching candidates for UAB?

WJOX text: Bill Clark, Garrett Riley, they will still seriously consider Vincent.

I was hoping they would throw some interesting names around, but that was a pretty tame answer except for Garret Riley - who I did not expect.
He was the former SMU OC/QB and current TCU OC/QB.
TCU definitely has a modern offense and is undefeated.

The Harsin experiment has made it very difficult to recruit coaching talent from outside the south. That was a bad fit from the beginning

Any SEC AD who goes with a coach who doesn’t have a few ties to the south is betting their job on the guy. If that coach doesn’t, they would be wise to have a staff with a bunch of them.

Just crossing my fingers that Mississippi State doesn’t snag AD Ingram in the middle of a very consequential coaching search for UAB

Riley would be freaking nuts, man. Hard to view that as anything other than a home run. Other than that though this list seems half assed. We're staring down the barrel of a 6-6 season for a team most of us thought would be 10-2...no way Vincent should stay.

Vincent has an excellent chance of landing the job. System Chancellor Finis "don't you build no grass field, boy" St. John IV (who has no higher ed experience, but is paid $1.1mill per annum) will "have input" and of course is always deeply concerned about fiscal responsibility. Have I mentioned his salary?

If we hire Harsin, is Clesi part of the package?

AD Mark Ingram will be on Matt McClearin show on WJOX 94.5 at 12:25.
I doubt he’ll have much to say about the national coaching search but they may talk about it since everyone is talking about AU coaching search. I’m also sure he will promote the new amenities and concessions at Bartow.

Exactly. Rhule is probably the top candidate for this coaching carousel. He knows it and so does his agent. Striking fast won't change that.

RE: Possible football candidates
Jamey Chadwell's Coastal team looked pretty good last night. Still confused how Old Dominion beat them, but they should at least be ranked 25 with an 8-1 record now, but I won't hold my breath considering Texas is 24 with a 5-3 record.
