Finish 3-1 and get to 6-6 will get us to a bowl game. I read there will be more teams with losing records in bowl games this year than ever before.

Well if they're going to let a 5-7 team in it would make sense to let in the one that played the hardest non conference schedule. But let's just take care of business and not worry about that.

I feel like they rank the teams that are 5-7 by graduation rate or something like that.

Bottom line, to win 3 of the last 4 someone is going to have to coach up the defense. Otherwise, it's not going to happen. I have to believe it's scheme because it sure doesnt seem like we are lacking athletes/players. If it's effort, put someone else on the field.

I think injuries are contributing on defense. I know Johns and Richardson were huge losses. I didn't notice CJ West out there Saturday, not sure how serious his injury is. Bolden played but he's been banged up several times this year. I don't think we have enough talent on defense to sustain injuries to our best players. It's also pretty telling that we've always had fringe NFL players on defense. Even in the dark days of Haynes we had Holley and Monday. I can't think of a single defensive player through the Lewis era that was a legitimate NFL prospect. I know we're getting a lot of high major transfers but it's not resulting in more notable players. Maybe part of it is just lack of coverage? No Dave so there's no one to hype up the potential of the guys we have?

Ironic about the contrast over the years. We had players graduate and go pro and even win Super Bowls, but Kent would only win 1-3 games. Now we are winning, but no one going pro.

There's an article in today's Record-Courier about the injury situation. It has certainly been a major factor this year. Schlee with a "lower body bruise" is 50-50, at best, to play the next game. Richardson is out for the season. West is day-to-day and Lewis is "hopeful" he will play the next game. Cephas is going to get more images and then more will be known. Pierre was injured in the Akron game but is good to go. As many of you know, I've been around a long time (following Kent State sports since September 1963) and just turned 77 years old. I have no statistics to back me up, but it sure seems that over the last 60 years injuries in both football and basketball bad enough to at least cause missed games has dramatically increased. Sure, there have always been injuries, but it certainly seems they are more common. That holds true, also, for professional sports. Just look at KSU basketball - when is the last time that every player was ready to go at the start of basketball season? I certainly don't know all the reasons, but as a fan it has certainly become very aggravating, just as has all the transfers in and out.

When I was at Miami game. I got and up close view of team coming out of locker room. So much more size than 5 years ago. I compared rosters for Washington game and Kent was same or even slightly bigger at LB, CB/DB/S. It was just the DL that was undersized.

Yes, the DL is not very big. If one recalls the Don James years, the team became known for its size.

The injuries have to be the result of players starting to play at an early age and then playing year round. That's a lot of abuse on the body with little or no recovery time.

Money plays a role too. I bet Bieber would have started with one day less rest 30 years ago. No way today. The team and his agent don’t feel comfortable with the risk. The down side is millions of $’s the upside is a pat on the back.

I'm sure that's a reason, and probably the biggest reason. Also, players today in most sports are bigger, stronger and faster, on average. Collisions are going to be more traumatic. Plus, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but my basketball coaches use to forbid weightlifting, and I know that continued for at least a while after my time. In football, even into the early 1980s, the "weight rooms" were a joke. Now working out on weights and other equipment is required. I'm not sure if I completely understand all the physiology of that, but many feel that that makes one more injury prone. Jimmal Ball, a star basketball player at Akron in the late 1990s, developed fractures on his spine and it was determined that they were due to his excessively strong back muscles pressing on his spine.

So much truth in this. The system is out of balance. Most wouldn't like it, but 10 game season would be better. It's why I personally didn't run cross country in college (even though could have). As much as I like it, college sports is not really holistic healthy generally speaking. There are some teams that try to incorporate a holisitic approach and I do believe Kent State is one of them. Even adding a little meditation/yoga can be very grounding to a player and will have positive aspect in other areas of life outside of sports.

Zion is a great example of what you're talking about. He just simply has too much mass to be moving as fast and jumping as high as he does. The laws of physics dictate that something has to give when he stops or lands. Sometimes it's the side of his shoe, sometimes it's a bone or ligament.

I'm worried about the massive 7+ footers that are much faster, more athletic, and playing out on the perimeter these days too. Bodies like that aren't built to move as quickly as they do. Holmgren is already hurt. Bol Bol has dealt with problems and it seems likely he'll never be able to be a high minutes guy. Everytime I see a clip of Wembanyama all I can think is god this would be exciting if I believed he will stay healthy.

Yeah 7 footers are unique for sure. I remember Z when he first came to Cleveland he must of been out for most of 3 years after all kinds of foot problems. Never really was the player he looked like he was going to be after his first year.

Bill Walton wasn't a 7 footer, but how many years in the NBA was he healthy? Only in 1985 with the Celtics did he play anything near a full season and that was because only played about 20 mpg. Unless a tall player is skinny as a rail that's a lot of weight on the feet.

I believe what others predicted preseason is coming true, the 3 money games have taken a toll on this team. Players sustained lingering injuries and then the MAC season pounding began.

Copy and paste in the next two years. Greed. 2024 looks absolutely horrible. Probably by 2025 we'll have 3 money games on Saturday and every week after is Wednesday night. Just when we get a decent program they toss them to the dogs.

RE: 2022 Football Week 8 vs Summit County Community College
I understand the financial aspect of it, but I hate those "money" games against teams they can't beat and those weekday night games. I don't mind playing teams from P5 conferences when there is a reasonable chance of winning, but those teams can't pay as much, either.
