This makes me happy. Just being on the list is a great start. Thought UAB would have more, but I would think a 2-0 first week would raise our votes. UAB is ranked higher than us in every preseason mid major poll

Ditto

I wonder where it came from.

Motivation for sure.

Excited for '22-'23

Go Rockets!

I dont know guys... theres a trend that we will blow it.

I kid. Go Rockets! In a sport where you have a chance to get in more ways than one, reputation is key... We are highly thought of in the midmajor ranks.

UAB is #1 in the mid major poll I saw, but preseason polls are usually half right and half wrong. some teams will have injuries. some players will not reach expectations. and other unexpected teams will develop winning chemistry or have surprisingly good players emerge out of nowhere. UT has 7 or 8 teams on the non-conf schedule that could be tourney teams if things come together for them. we'll see.

Polls tend to be more right than wrong. At least they seem to have finally realized, 13 Big 10 teams is a bit unrealistic in the top 25.

Hard to keep that many from any conference in the polls when half of any given league will have ten league losses. That sort of tanks the pre-conference high ranking.

Doesn't seem to have stopped them in the past. Boeheim last week read the riot act on the over-ranking of the B10 teams. Needed doing.

It’s nice to be in the conversation this early in the season. We’ll still have to earn our continued presence but what an exciting opportunity. Looking forward to seeing the new ADs strategies for promotion and attendance.

RE: MBB receiving a vote in pre-season AP Poll
With this year's very competitive non conference schedule, Toledo has an opportunity to sharpen their resume against some highly reputable Mid Major programs like UAB on a neutral court, Vermont on the road and Richmond at home. While it won't be worth as much as beating good Power 6 Programs, wins against The Blazers, Catamounts, and Spiders will still provide some juice for the NET Rankings and cement The Rockets as a top Mid Major Program!

Are those 8 votes or 8 points? I can't tell how the points get accumulated, but would think it has to do with where you get ranked by voters. I see 84 voters listed from various news publications with one from Detroit (Detroit News) and another from Ann Arbor and 1 from Cleveland.

Found it. The writer from the Detroit News has Toledo at #22. Another has them at #24 and 2 have them at #25. 60 of the voters have them unranked.

So I'm guessing maybe something like this:
#22 = 4 pts
#24 = 2 pt
#25 = 1 pts
#25 = 1 pts

Correct.

I am pumped. A week full of poll watching now. Assuming we win Wednesday. When we are in this position there are so many games to watch that could help us

RE: MBB receiving a vote in pre-season AP Poll
I think it possible that the Rockets could have multiple teams ranked come late December. Men's and women's BB and football. If they win out in the next month any/all of those teams could get ranked. Have we ever had more than one team ranked at the same time before?

Men are also getting 10 votes in the coaches poll.

But, they dropped from #4 to #5 in the mid-major poll, getting passed by Furman. Kent has moved up to 6.

The poll stuff is fun, but dangerous. Just win games.
