As Coach Fickell has said many times, "we don't use the P-word around here," and Indiana fans would be well advised not to use the G-word when describing Cincinnati after two straight losses to the 'Cats. I read a few post-game comments on their boards and some are in disbelief again this season losing to "G5 Cincinnati". The whole P5/G5 classification has been so imprinted in fans' minds they lose all rational perspective about the quality of teams, relying instead on conference memberships as a measure of quality (Miami-OH just won at Northwestern tonight too).
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we can leave our G5 baggage at the door at the end of this season. But the reality is there are a few elite programs at the top of college football; then some very good P5 teams and select G5 teams. Then there are programs such as Indiana and many more, that cling to the myth that their football programs are superior based upon rubbing shoulders with the elite while perennially finishing on the lowest rungs of those conferences' ladders.
A tense second half, but our defense held. Onward and upward--Go Bearcats!

P5 conference members are like a group of high school girls: one hot girl, several average ones and the rest.
-What a tale of two halves. The first was a joy to watch and this may be the best wide receiver group we've even seen. When Bryant delivers with the pinpoint accuracy we saw in Q1 and Q2 it's highlight reel worthy.
-The second half was a root canal without anesthetics. One of the longest, most tedious halves I've ever sat through that still yielded a victory. IU somehow managed to shut down the rushing attack "Alabama style" and it never really got better. We watched in disbelief after the first half fireworks wondering if there would ever be another first down, much less a score. The clock just wouldn't move fast enough to end the misery.
-Lost in the second half offensive malaise were many incredible defensive stops. New stars are emerging in this defensive unit and if key players stay healthy it will only get better.
-When the memory of the second half offensive woes fade, Fickell's team has completed a two game sweep of a border state B10 team. UC's recruiting in the state of IN has been very good and I'm betting that result only improves our program's status in luring the best from the Hoosier State.
-Finally, kudos to UC for turning down the volume on the audio system. From where I sat, it was plenty loud still but not the threshold of pain level experienced in the KSU game. Many of us complained and it appears they listened. Work is still needed on audio clarity.
-A "tricky tough" game awaits in Tulsa where it's always an adventure. I can savor yesterday's win until next Saturday night and hope the coaching staff finds some answers to spring our running backs loose by then.
I didn't see the second half because I had to go out but 9 drives and only 2 first downs? Good God. Bryant played great in the 1st half but that has got to be one of the worst 2nd halfs ever.
Did they even give Prater a try just to give Indiana a different look for a series?
I commented on this upstream but I am increasingly impressed with the play and disruption of Dontay Corleone. This kid is a frosh [RS] and he has to be bigger than his listed 320. That's not a knock. He plays with much energy and you can tell he's just starting to add some football IQ and technique to his raw abilities. Check out these stats after four games...
16 Total Tackles
2.5 TKLs Loss
1 Sack
He's the backup to Jowon Briggs so his production will go up the more playing time he earns. He's also affecting plays where game stats won't measure. If you haven't noticed, I love me some big uglies [on both sides of the ball] and we've got an interior dee lineman who may turn out scary good sooner rather than later. Remember Derek Wolfe? Terrill Byrd? He's not there yet of course but he has the tools and motor to ascend to that level. Keep workin' at it Dontay!

If you look at the roster both the oline and dline looks more SECish.

Yeah I think this is my takeaway too. It's very concerning we could hardly move the ball on the ground but we probably should have just kept throwing until they adjusted.

I've read that somewhere too but can't recall a single play or any specific incident last Saturday where it might have occurred. And I'm sure we won't hear about it through the coaching staff if his playing status is in doubt for Tulsa.

It was a big point of conversation by the analysts during the broadcast. It appeared Ben frequently grabbed his arm between plays so they speculated he was hurt. Chad tweeted that Ben broke open an old scab wound he first got on fall camp and that was it.
