Indeed. Thanks for that.
This team (and offensive approach) is so much better than recent editions.
Among other things, Houston has incredible quickness at that WR position, and outstanding talent on the DL.

On the flip side, the offense looked decent for most of the game. When McMahon gets protection, he can move the ball. Very few throws today that you'd grade as bad. Better run/pass balance.

Definitely positives, but there are still some glaring weaknesses that have been unfortunately glaring for multiple seasons. Line play has been an issue for a while now. Gotta develop those positions better.

Having watched all the previous years of Bloom’s offense he’s clearly not running the show anymore. Great news. I can’t think of many play calls I’d complain about on that side of the ball.

Haven't had an interesting rice v uh game to watch in like a decade. So, that's an improvement, I guess

This one hurts, but I'm encouraged despite the loss. We had UH's full attention, and we almost beat them, despite their big advantage in talent. I thought they'd blow us out.

I'm going with the Owls against UAB. We have a good team.

We were winning at halftime in 2018. It was interesting through 3 quarters. This one was interesting the entire game

Bummed with the loss but a good showing. This team should be a bowl team. Keep fighting boys.

Agree. Didn’t get to watch the second half at all. Sounds like we had a real chance to win this game going down to the final minutes.
Crummy that we still can’t take that last step towards winning games like this one. But tonight I think we showed we certainly belonged on the same field. And with much the same talent.
Next week we start conference play with a tough one. One that we can win. I really think this team can win another 5 games in CUSA.

lol If we try to do that (i.e., run on first and second down) we'll hand UH the ball with 3:30 left and game still tied, and UH in good field position.
So try to pass instead. How did that work out?
It got us down to the Houston 35 yard line before the pick.

And I'm told Mrs. Lincoln enjoyed the play until John Wilkes Booth showed up.

Woke up today feeling like I had a hangover, surprising since I don’t drink. It was the game. I haven’t had a Rice game affect me like that in a long time. So, I guess that is progress in a way.

I had a lot of confidence that we would drive for the tying TD and go to OT. Something else that is new.

I knew that 17 point spread was way too big. I hope all you gamblers took Rice and the points.

Pretty clear we're not a PTR team at this point. And our best weapons are at WR

The game ending int was not a badly thrown pass - it went off the hands of our receiver.

Belonging on the field with a team that lost--badly--to Kansas is a very low bar.

Although Kansas does appear to be better this year.

Agree with McHargue's call that the pass was a bit hot, but placement was good. Overall I'm pleased with McMahon's performance, it was tick better than what we'd been getting last few years, outside of that 1 year from the TCU transfer. Made good decisions, even threw the ball away on that one play, which is something none of our QBs seem to do ever.

The OL was disappointing in run blocking, and UH seemed to make better adjustments than us at the half, because in the 2nd half our defense as a whole felt overpowered.

Another positive is Van Sickle developing into a dependable leg from < 45 yards

I have never seen any group of receivers at any level give the defense so many tip drills in a season as we've done through four games. Out of the 8 interceptions we've thrown, I think only two have been the traditional "QB made a poor decision/uncatchable throw" category.

Since, the receivers are supposed to be our strength, this is concerning.

We run a lot of slants. Most of the time they've worked, some great passes and catches, but dangerous with the zip it requires. It'd be nice if we had a better run game. The unconventional runs have worked, but Broussard was only effective on short yardage. McMahon has a good combination of bullet and touch passes. He's the biggest difference from past Bloomgren teams. Should've played more in previous season.

Just in case you turned off the game after the “game ending INT “…
We managed to get the ball back with :24 on our own 6 and move it to the UH 6 with one play into the end zone that grazed off Luke’s fingertips (well defended)

Heck of an effort all night
