In this case the schools forfeit only the 2021-2022 year conference payouts (about 1.4 million) and pay 1.75 million up front for leaving early. A total of 3.15 million. So CUSA gets its extra 150,000 per school for them leaving early up front instead of waiting another year.

The schools will not get paid by the Sunbelt Conference for this year. In USM's case their AD announced 3 million increase in budget for this year (likely from money raised initially to write a 3 million dollar check to CUSA as USM had raised money before hand) and expect another 2 million increase within 2 years (mostly from expected sunbelt revenue). USM is also already expecting to save $800,000 in travel from this year alone being in the sunbelt.

Let’s see some figures on this? I don’t believe that for a second

Texas State same distance as UTSA, Lafayette the same as La Tech, Ark State the same as UNT, Troy the same as UAB

Where are all these savings?

I have been thinking the same thing.

ULM is closer by a few hours (half actually, 3 hours vs 6) than Rice. South Alabama is closer by most of a day (2 hours vs 16). Thats just in division. Then no trips to Miami (FIU/FAU) which is farther than anyone in the west division.

And this is a total travel savings across all sports for the year. It was figured to be at a minimum 400k a year and up to 1.5 mill a year. After getting the schedules for sports for this year vs what USM was looking to getting while in CUSA the current estimation for this athletic year alone is about 800k.

ODU's football coach has said that the average travel in CUSA schedule was 1,000 miles. In the SBC schedule this year, average is 500. It's reasonable to suggest USM has a similar situation. For non-revenue sports, it adds up. More games, more trips, less $$ kickback.

That’s ODU. Which is on the far coast of the conference.

Not Southern Miss. The West SBC is very similar to CUSA West for USM.
Yes South Alabama is closer but that’s it. And they still have to go to ODU, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, App State.

It's so funny watching both sides throw out numbers and stating how this is so bad (remaining CUSA members) or so good (USM). Everyone sees what they want to see. You know what I see? Good for CUSA members to get a few extra bucks and good for USM getting into the conference that they wanted. And good for NMSU that all this caused them to get an invite to CUSA.
