Going to have to give Mazza's a try.

Worth the trip to the Point IMO. Coupons in those leaflets that come in the mail, look for those. Opens at 3 since covid, check the hours. His Dad had a shop on the Eastside when I was a kid. He does it proud.

Their large Calzone's are huuuuuge! Tasty as well.

I'd try them but I'm that guy goes into a place determined to get something new, when ordering pressure is on? I order the same-ol that I know I like. Same pizza. Same size pizza. Same ingredients. Same crust. Same.

Well we've all heard of National Champion Coach Duggs who brought the title back to Toledo, right? Barstool created him. And now they will be claiming the key to the city from the mayor himself because they won it all with Toledo in the video game NCAA Football.

Side note, I'm always down to talk pizza...Gino's pizza takes the cake in Toledo. Amie's right behind. Mancino's a distant third. And of course have to show love to the hometown national brand Marco's.

Good on the Marco's promo. I lived in Toledo area for nearly 40 years before moving away - with a good portion of that living in Oregon/Northwood/East Toledo. I never knew Marco's was "born" in Toledo until I saw an episode on Undercover Boss with Marco's CEO being featured (not one of the original owners). That doesn't seem to get much coverage even in Toledo and certainly not outside of Toledo. I believe it started in Oregon with the first restaurant being about 2 miles from the house I lived in near Pearson Park.

Yep, It's known but right, not as prominently as the glass factories. Pizza, I think NYC but the prominent corporations are all mid-west or Texas. Weird?

Marcos does many little things locally but haven't grown to the point where there's a big building or campus with their name on it. I don't know if they've backed a prominent charity but they help out with many other things. Block, Welltower, Anderson's I guess are the biggies though??? What Toledo does to retain these large companies, IDK.

Gets me thinking...

Welcome to the Promedica Glass Bowl at Marco's Field

Yay or nay? Naming rights for stadiums and fields seems to be the trend right now in CFB. Owens Corning also could be a possible suitor for UT.

Nay on Promed. A non-profit gobbling land, besides politicians isn't gaining friends. They may be a case of wearing out welcome with their over whelming presense. I'd leave it to the privately owned biz or publically traded.

I saw that Ohio State's football field is now called "Safelite Field" - so they kind of beat us to the "glass theme"

Should pursue "Rocket Mortgage Field". Can no longer use the LOF Glass Bowl Stadium - but I suppose Pilkington Glass is still a possibility (or NSG Glass as the parent company). Owens Corning Fiber Glass Bowl Stadium might work. Don't know if Libbey Glass makes enough money anymore to pursue naming rights. Any other Glass companies still around? Definitely no longer the Glass Capital of the World. Maybe the Michael J. Owens-Illinois Glass Bowl Stadium since his name is synonymous with Glass production innovation - and Owens CC doesn't have a football stadium to contend with.

and yes, these are mostly all in jest.

Stubborn Brother ranked low on the list... still a great bar.

Stubborn Brother has phenomenal pizza. It’s easily among the very best in Toledo. Vastly superior to those others listed IMO.

Interesting. Ive had some half off pizzas after 10pm and they were probably old. Many burnt cracker crust experiences.

Pre-made slices is always a risk and they're not cheap. One of these days I'm going to try one of SB's fresh pizza's, if I can ever make it past Jera's. I may have to approach from a different direction.

Sports bars though in general bore me. Same-ol. I like that Peruvian place. Nice vibe in there and some different things to order than every other sports bar, everywhere. I wish Rice Blvd were bigger. A Japanese Fusion Sports Bar could be trippy.

The suggested Rocket-Mortgage Field is such a natural. I don't favor brand naming THE Glass Bowl, but could live with a field naming. Name the goal posts, name the end zones but leave the stadium alone.

If they want to name the city after the stadium, who am I to complain? 03-wink But it's really Jeep, Frog or Mayfly with a side of chili dog city. We're at best, Surrounded by other towns with glass factories city.

So back to my question: is this "Barstool" an actual thing that shows up on game-day or a cloud thing on the internet?

St Louis has a lot of murders but its not the murder city. Its the Gateway to the West... only one arch.

And week 1 was in studio. Not sure what it will be like.

But what an arch! We got broken bottles so we should be the glass city? You can buy Dr. Scholl's here so should we be called the Gateway to Michigan? Common, you can do better in...

Reality is real.

That name was just something duh'Blocks did to sell papers and promote themselves. We have never had a lot of glass manufacturing within the city and nowhere lead in that dept. Neither do we near lead in art glass. We're not even tops in Ohio in either category (though I'd like to see some effort put in). Rossford can be Glass City.

Toledo should brand to something relevant.

Read up... theres about a half dozen reasons for the nickname. 100 years later we dont have to lead in all glass products manufacturing in the world.

Eh yeah, quote a marketing ad as the reason for the marketing, lol.

There's only ONE reason for the name, John Block. Oh look, we make Jeeps! Only two places historically can claim the home and only one still makes them. We got rivers, we got lakes. Oh no, we don't got glass. lol

Toledo should brand to something relevant. You're creative. Get on that. We can put that name behind it instead of "blockhead."

RE: Barstool to be at UT-BG MACTION game
Didn't Toledo start one of the first solar glass panel companies? Can't remember the name of it now, but it was started by former LOF guy well known in glass industry. I worked with their first CFO/Controller at that company. Was in P'burg. And I thought my long term memory was still good... I'll remember it when I quit trying to think about it.

Edit: Had to look it up, but still not what I was thinking of when I found some info. Harold McMaster was the guy and it shows his company was First Solar (not the name I was trying to remember).

ahh - found it - Glasstech. McMaster sold that in 1991 for $100M after it had gone through bankruptcy. Also started another glass company in 1948 called Permaglass, that produced curved and tempered glass for the consumer and automotive markets. McMaster was recognized as "the world's leading authority on tempering glass.." That company was then merged into Guardian Industries, the company run by William Davidson, the former owner of the Pistons.

But when you think of McMaster and Michael Owen, you have 2 of the biggest innovators in the Glass Industry. Helps with Toledo getting the title of Glass Capital of the World.

We has that title WAY before "91." We were the Glass City when I was growing up.

Last time, uh first time we had this discussion on the board I had found an old article. It was a Block that did the deed quite a time ago for marketing. I honestly wish we had more emphasis on art glass. There's one shop downtown. Beyond that, IDK.

They are going to be at the game, then leaving the next day for the NIU vs. Miami, OH game the following night. Talked a lot about loving "MAC-tion" on an excerpt from their first show this season. I think they were in Pittsburgh for the game with W.Va - but not sure. Recorded at a set that looked like a bar - and now that I think about it, I think they may have even had some beers on the set.

Are supposed to do interviews with fans at the games they attend, something ESPN Game Day wouldn't dream of doing. Hard enough to keep "unwanted" messages from being telecast from the crowds surrounding the cast of Herbstreit, Howard, Corso, et al.

That should be a nice experience for the students. Someone get a Rocky head for one of the stoolers to put on.
