Dumb penalty earlier in this series costs them the drive. So far there have been several plays where you would expect us to run throgh a tackle or over power the line but we don’t seem to have any physical advantage.

I think we lost 3 yards on 3rd down so was it maybe 4th and 5? Game tracker actually says it was 4th and 20 due to 15 yard dead ball penalty. Maybe that is wrong?

How does Rice win football games. Not often, I know, but what is Rice's (Bloomgren's) philosophy of winning football? Pound the rock, I know, but what does Rice (he) go to when that's not working.

Two things tonight prompt the question.
1) Punting on 4th and 2 from the 50. If I were coaching football, 4th and 2 from the 50 would be 4-down territory, all day/night. And that would be a philosophical decision, not ad hoc. We would say that from day 1 of spring training, we would practice that way, and we would play that way. That would just be part of our overall approach. I would not be like that HS coach in Arkansas who never punted, I'd pretty much always punt on 4th and long from backed up in our own end. But I'd go for it a lot more than most, and our team would understand that a) our offense was expected to pick up the first, and 2) if they didn't, then our defense was expected to get a turnover or a 3-and-out.
2) Going 3 plays for -1 yard when recovering a fumble inside the other team's 10 yard line. That's when you have to go for the jugular. Run for a loss of 1 and two incomplete passes isn't getting it done. That needs to be a TD every time.

Rice just seems way too timid/passive in two situations where I would favor maximum aggressive.

Crowd is actually better than I would have guessed. Had to ask folks to move from my seats. McNeese brought a good, at least loud, contingent.
