Right up until they were not. They just advanced 41 miles in 2 days. To put that in comparison, we were advancing about 20 miles a day in the Desert Storm break through. This is the first real break through since the first days of the original massive Russian invasion.. That kind of advance means they have found a hole where the Russians can’t mount any true organized resistance. It’s a route. That stagnant war map is changing more as we speak than it has all summer.

I'm highly skeptical of reports on each side, but especially of ones about how "good" Ukraine is doing. In the West, the media/propaganda is trying to keep up public support for the war and for financial/military support so they must report that Ukraine is likely to prevail. If they admit that Russia will win regardless, then the public will question why we are wasting our tax dollars. Kinda like how well things were going in Vietnam and Afghanistan until they weren't and the countries collapsed.

Even Russian television is starting to admit they’re losing.

There have been phone calls intercepted from Russian soldiers complaining to wives and family members about how under equipped they are to fight the Ukrainians.

This war is turning into a commercial for our defense contractors/weapons manufacturers with how effective they’ve been against Russian forces.

To be fair, the real success is up north around Kharkiv---not where the big offensive is in the south around Kherson. My guess is Ukrainian probes or intelligence detected a weakened area of the line where the Russians have moved troops south to defend Kherson and the Ukrainians elected to attack in that weak point. Most likely, assuming this was more of an attack of opportunity---there are probably only a fairly limited number of reserve forces assigned to exploit the break through----so its not like the Ukrainians can keep this pace up very long. To do so likely would mean taking troops from the defensive reserves designed to provide an in depth defense for the region. Those defensive reserves are there to immediately move up and blunt any attack that might break through the initial lines of defense (in other words---they are there to prevent whats happening to the Russian right now). At this point, the Ukrainians probably have some options and limited goals in mind---but its not like they are on their way to Moscow. They know they dont have the follow up forces in place to just do whatever they want---but they can probably take some key crossroads and capture some supply depots that would helpful to the Ukrainian war effort. For instance, I bet they go after any locations containing major stores of 152mm artillery ammunition as well as key rail junctions.
