Well. Nailed this one.

6 years. 8 million. As far as Brannen's buyout, stay tuned. I ultimately expect a settlement in the neighborhood of half the buyout to avoid the mess of court.

Pretty decent resolution for UC. Just an educated guess but I am willing to wager UC has a self-insured retention of somewhere in the $100,000-$250,000 range and the rest was picked up by the D&O/EPL policy.

Mars and Brannen could have probably gotten here sooner without the big show.

It was just announced that Brannen got 2.75 million from UC as the settled amount.

Almost $3M. I think he and his family can live off of that for awhile.

Mars is getting 40% of it. He’s going to pay taxes on it. He’s probably got $100K in expenses in the case. He’s netting around $1M

He'll probably get about what he was offered before Mars was involved when it's all said and done.

The bottom line is no one forced him to settle. If he had such an open and shut case then he wouldn't have done so.

We all know time and resources we’re all on UC’s side. Even if he wins UC appeals and more time delay. So he settles.

A class program handles things the way LSU did Orgeron. From SI: “They said, ‘Coach, you’ve got $17.1 million on your contract. We’re gonna give it to you,’” Orgeron said. “I said, ‘What time do you want me to leave and what door do you want me out of, brother?’”

Was Orgeron [who won a national chip] let go because of losing games or because of player accusations, mass defections and school protocol violations? There's a major difference between the two.

As you rightly are pointing out, every situation with a coach leaving isn't the same. A few on this board love to trash the uc AD. There's a reason contracts allow firing for cause with no buyout.

LSU showed class, UC was classless. I expect better from my school.

Yes, I think it's clear the individual has a lot more pressure to settle from a time/resources standpoint than the huge institution in a situation like this. In fact, I think the OP's "not being forced to settle" and "open and shut case" comments apply more strongly to UC than to Brannen.
Just about everyone felt it was highly unlikely this would ever go to trial from the beginning. All in all, I think there were things on both sides that could be made to not look very good in a public courtroom.

All pretextual. Does anybody seriously believe we’d be having this discussion if the team had made the tournament?

The transfers weren’t pretextual. We had what? 4 guys at the end? 5? There was no team left.

Yes. Though it's a bad hypothetical because we weren't winning anything the way he handled his players.
Doesn't matter. The university made the right decision. He ultimately agreed to a significantly reduced buyout.

Perhaps from a DOJ whistle blower? Or a Russian source? LMAO.
