Why not more Sunday/Monday games Labor Day weekend
The lack of NFL regular season games and the holiday weekend ought to lend itself to more Sunday and Monday games opening weekend. Why don’t more schools and the networks take advantage of that and spread games out more?

I agree, at a minimum we should have had a late afternoon game yesterday and today as well as the night game.

The schools want people to go outside and enjoy their weekend.

RE: Why not more Sunday/Monday games Labor Day weekend
TBH, I’m surprised that there aren’t more of those games, too. Labor Day Monday itself can be a bit of a pain because the next day is a work day, but Sunday ought to be an attractive date for a lot of schools on paper (particularly compared to the common Thursday night and Friday night games on Labor Day weekend). If I’m either the Pac-12 or Big 12, I’m offering a Labor Day Sunday afternoon game every year as part of the next TV contract negotiations. Heck, this might be one of the ways that CBS shoehorns in another Big Ten game next year by using late afternoon on Labor Day Sunday.

I think it's because there are games the following Saturday and teams don't want the short turn-around to that Saturday.

The simple fix is to play a weak opponent in week 2 so the short turn around is minimal. Play a fellow P5 in week 1 and follow them up with FCS or G5 in week 2.

If you’re a conference like the MWC or AAC Sun/Mon of week 1 would be a great spot for a conference game to draw attention to your league and get some of your front runners on OTA tv.

That's why those time slots are open. The NFL teams don't want a short week leading into the first week of the season.

some teams have done that and gotten upset in week 2.

Yeah, though you trade that for better TV exposure and potentially better attendance without other games to compete against. Not sure what the P5/G5 vs. FCS winning percentages are but imo it makes sense for a few more games to happen on Sunday/Monday (especially major OOC/neutral site games). If the weather is crappy like it was in Cleveland this yesterday you’d have no other sports options to watch besides non-Guardians baseball or the US Open.

Other networks have to get involved. ESPN is covered with the US Open all weekend.

I would settle for ESPN putting the two CFL games on one of their linear channels, both today and next month on Columbus Day (Canadian Thanksgiving).

Or play a Week 0 game followed by Sunday night like Florida State did.

Yeah that might be a real option going forward more and more. I think week 0 is going to become more and more a normal week.

This. ESPN also had WNBA playoffs which have been outstanding.
Plus I am not sure some Southern cities want Sunday work after church. Those schools which begin class after Labor Day should look at a Sunday or Monday game though

Gotta get that ESPN+ action to watch most CFL games.

Their attendance figures would agree.

Vegas Kickoff Classic on Labor Day every year would be dope.

The OSU coach said that as part of the TV contract, each BXII school has to play one Thursday game, but the school gets to choose the game (and year - it is apparently over the life time of the contract).

They chose playing last Thursday since it doesn't give them a short week some time later.

Good example of a couple G5 games that could have been played around 4:00 on Sunday or Monday:

Wyoming at Tulsa (was on FS1)
Liberty at Southern Miss (ESPN+)
Middle Tenn @ James Madison (ESPN+)
Army @ Coastal Carolina (ESPN+)

Really not hard.

No students or fewer students on campus.
