Exclamation IS THE SUN BELT THE TOP G5 FOOTBALL CONFERENCE THIS SEASON?
.

............Conference
...............Record
............(Week 0/1):

MWC.........9-6

Sun Belt.....8-6* (ODU beat VT; App St. lost by two (61-63) to UNC)^

MAC..........5-7

AAC...........4-7 (would be 5-6 if ECU had converted a late FG attempt vs. NC St.)

CUSA........5-10

*Includes Coastal Carolina's impressive victory over Army.

^The SBC would be 9-5 if App State had converted one of their 2 pt conversion attempts vs. UNC.

Considering how much more successful the SBC teams were vs. P5 competition, the Sun Belt is probably going to be the consensus leader heading into FBS Week 2.

RE: MWC & SBC are off to the most impressive start among the G5 conferences
.

Interestingly, this state of affairs wasn't predicted by the Massey Composite Football Rankings, which had the conferences ranked:

#6 AAC
#7 FBS Independents
#8 MWC
#9 SBC
#10 CUSA
#11 MAC

I voted Sunbelt based on expansion but since the 3-teams that are leaving the ACC haven't left yet, it's probably going to be the AAC.

AAC this year, but Sunbelt has a strong case for years going forward.

Computer rankings are imo meaningless before week 6 or so, because IIRC they are usually based on last years numbers or other filler.

Sun Belt wins for having their fans be the most obnoxious across every G5 conference board

I'm curious. What features of this thread seem "trollish" to you? Perhaps you just don't want to see people talking about this topic?

The truth is that I enjoy setting discussions into motion on topics of mutual interest. There's nothing trollish about that. To the contrary, it's a way of building an online community, since there is no right or wrong answer to these questions, and we can have fun exchanging our views, as opposed to those threads that are filled with angry exchanges.

If you're searching for a term, it's this one: "gadabout."

Definition of gadabout
: a person who flits about in social activity

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gadabout

p.s. People seem to like these posts that have polls in them. They tend to get plenty of views.

RE: IS THE SUN BELT THE TOP G5 FOOTBALL CONFERENCE?
No way to know for sure yet. Cincy was competitive with Arkansas. Not sure if utsa is still top 25 or Houston is overrated. Ecu and App “should” have won

It’s not a great picture for the “new” aac. 3-11 in week 1. 1-2 vs fcs. 1 victory over probably the worst fbs team.

If usm had pulled out vs Libbery I would be ecstatic with our week 1 even with an App loss

4 of CUSA's losses were with teams going to the AAC next season. CUSA incoming teams went 2-2 during week1.

I think it's to early to tell. Wait tell at least the majority of ooc games are finished to say which the best G5 conference. Just hope the conference doesn't hurt itself by beating the good team's

The American might have more advertisers paying for ads on their games, but SunBelt/FunBelt has more fans, IMO.

This one is pretty easy this year. The AAC has 3 teams headed to the Big 12 and was still strong enough to take 6 teams from CUSA. The sunbelt has no teams that the Big 12 wanted.

To be fair it was a easy exodus from CUSA with its super stretched footprint and bumbling commissioner.

Yup. The only real mystery is why MTSU and WKU passed on what appears to have been a welcoming MAC.

It's been bantered about here for months on end that the MAC would not take WKU without MTSU and MTSU walked away from the table when the MAC required a very long term commitment to the MAC.
