And tonight, we learn that Carter signed a separation agreement (available on WCYB’s website, which pays him his salary for a year and provides his kids a scholarship to the university. Interesting.

So this is about Harris and not Carter but seriously, WTH kind of operation has ETSU and ETSU athletics turned in to? Shay leaves (of his own volition cough, cough) and gets a multi year paycheck. Carter quits (of his own volition cough, cough) and gets a big payout. Harris allegedly commits heinous actions and is fired WITH CAUSE and gets to walk away with $150k. This is seriously strange and in Harris’ case pretty sick. Where’s all this funny money coming from btw? Are we paying these guys to keep their mouths shut? Also, still not a peep about what went down with soccer and what’s happening with softball. Are we supposed to just look the other way with all this stuff?

I almost forgot that Ezell is still being paid. So as it stands today we’re paying 3 women’s basketball coaches, 2 men’s coaches and 2 ADs. $450k for Shay, $300k+ for Ezell, $150k for Harris, likely $100k+ for Carter plus the scholarships for his kids. Over a million dollars being paid to people with nothing to do with the school anymore. Maybe that’s small potatoes at a P5 but this is a preposterous situation for a school like ETSU to be in.

Seems like ETSU is a nice place to work but an even better place to be fired from.

I'm going to work on my resume and see if I can get hired. Maybe I can screw up and get paid to do it.

Better yet, maybe you can screw up and get paid NOT to do it.

These are strange, even bizarre times across the board.

Yeah, I was thinking about trying to get fired, but I don't think I would get quite the same severance package... LOL. I don't have any idea what's going on, but I think it's safe to say the era of the most recent AD may have been ok on the field of play, but was a train wreck behind the scenes. I suspect there are things we don't know, and may never know.

Even if Carter screwed up big time — in today’s politically hyper-charged environment, being a college AD, plus numerous other situations, must be like walking through a minefield every day at work.

From the outside, it looks to me like Carter didn't exert enough control/discipline/restrictions on coaches' decisions or actions. If the accusations in the complaints against Harris are true, Harris put team rules in place which may or may not have been in alignment with school policy and took action against players with no intervention from the AD. And it sounds like the only option the former players had was to make a very public Title IX complaint since their voices were not being heard otherwise. I see some of the same elements in the Shay situation (lack of control). Don't know or remember enough about the soccer and softball. I don't know of any off-court stuff with Coach Ezell - I think it was largely based on the on-court performance.

I hope that the interim AD and his permanent replacement can reestablish a little better balance, allowing the coaches some leeway but putting some guardrails on some of their behaviors or decisions.

There’s not internal processes in place to deal with athletes’ complaints, concerns, issues? Did these students seek an audience with the appropriate university officials, including Carter even Noland, FIRST where their complaint were rejected thus resulting in them going PUBLIC? Or, was this a setup by activists handling them?

I read a report from WJHL released a couple weeks ago about ETSU's investigation. It is quiet on the players' actions or how the complaint was filed; however, it does paint both Harris and Carter unfavorably. There may be some truth in your opinion, but I've just not seen any reporting supporting it.
